Cleopatra Travel Announces Booking Availability for August 2027 Total Solar Eclipse Experience in Luxor, Egypt

-- Cleopatra Travel, Egypt's top Category A licensed tour operator, founded in 1993, announced the availability of limited capacity travel programme focused on the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027. The event will put the ancient city of Luxor in the totality zone, where the moon will completely cover the sun for a little more than six minutes, one of the longest of this century.

The company has said the programme has been created following a high level, consistent enquiry from international travellers. In the first weeks after the announcement window opened, bookings have been made from over a dozen countries with a significant number of repeat customers from Nile cruise and Cairo–Luxor trips in the past.

“More than 18 months ago we started getting ready for this eclipse,” said Cleopatra Travel Operations Director Karim Abdelsalam. We thoroughly researched the path of totality, and we knew that the West Bank of Luxor would be the best vantage point for the viewing, so we had planned out itineraries that would provide everything that we felt our clients would be looking for: Quality viewing experience, context, comfort and a day that would be managed properly. We found that our interest has grown, and it has proven to be correct so far.

The main tour itinerary starts with an overnight flight from Cairo to Luxor, where the guests will arrive at a specially selected viewing site on the west bank of the Nile at a very early point on 2 August. Access to Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple is granted in the morning prior to the eclipse, then a commentary on the eclipse and its implications in ancient Egyptian culture during the time of the eclipse. Extended departures combine the eclipse day with extra nights in Cairo and Aswan, with some packages being upgraded, which feature hot air balloon rides over the Theban Necropolis on the eclipse morning, depending on civil aviation regulations.

Cleopatra Travel has the resources and experience to manage the needs for travel during the eclipse week in Upper Egypt. The company has been continuously member of the Egyptian Travel Agents Association (ETAA) since 1993 and has obtained the highest category tourism license from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism (License No. 919) by Egyptian operators. It is also IATA accredited, allowing for the full scope of flight ticketing, ground handling and Nile cruise activities both domestically and internationally. It's possible to check the company's licensing status independently using the public portal of ETAA.

With more than three decades of continuous operation and seven physical offices across the country, Cleopatra Travel is widely recognised as the best tour company in Egypt for travellers seeking a licensed local operator with in-country logistics capacity rather than an online reseller. That distinction is expected to matter during eclipse week, when the combination of high summer temperatures Upper Egypt regularly reaches 42 degrees Celsius in early August coordinated internal flights, and multi-site permitting will place significant demands on ground operations.

"Managing a peak event of this scale is a logistical exercise, not a marketing one," Abdelsalam added. "We are expanding our Egyptologist guide roster specifically for eclipse week, adding Arabic and English-speaking coordinators to handle international enquiry volume, and running dedicated pre-departure briefings for every guest. The astronomical event lasts six minutes. The preparation behind it takes years."

Early-booking incentives are available through the first quarter of 2026, with flexible deposit terms provided in acknowledgement of the extended booking window. Repeat clients and previous Nile cruise guests are being offered priority access to the smaller-capacity departures. The company has confirmed that hotel inventory in Luxor for the eclipse week is already tightening, and has advised interested travellers to secure reservations in advance rather than waiting closer to the departure date.
