-- Tucked into the rolling foothills of North Georgia are 3,500 acres of fertile vineyards and pinewood forests from Chateau Elan Winery & Resort. The must-see culinary destination invites visitors and locals alike to unwind and indulge for a weekend celebration or tranquil afternoon.
“This isn’t a place to feel rushed,” says Robert Woolridge, general manager. “We want guests to take time to indulge in every aspect of the resort as we fill their cup, both figuratively and literally, with authentic Southern hospitality.”
The resort balances upscale luxury with warm Southern charm that melts away any pretense, reminding guests that they belong regardless of their interest in wine. From the moment guests arrive, they’re greeted by soothing sensory experiences from pops of color in the flowers and budding Muscadine grapes at the entrance to the serene sanctuary of the full-service spa and five-star restaurants.
“Chateau Elan is a place for people who enjoy nice things but don’t want to feel pretentious,” Woolridge explains. “We want guests to forget their troubles at home or at work and let us facilitate an experience tailored to their visit.”
Wine to Unwind
While the setting and hospitality alone make Chateau Elan a worthwhile destination, it’s the wine that puts the resort on the map.
A collection of 30 house wines, created and curated by Italian winemaker Simone Bergese, offers something for all oenophiles. The sweet peach notes of their bestselling sparkling Moscato appeal to casual drinkers while the rich, full-bodied biodynamic barrel-aged Petite Sirah brings intoxicating notes of espresso and dark chocolate for those seeking something more complex to satisfy and broaden their palate.
“You don’t have to be a wine enthusiast to find something you love here,” says Woolridge. “This is a space for every person and palate.”
The Perfect Pairing
Equally as notable as the selection of wines is an impressive array of dining options to pair with each glass.
Guests can enjoy a day at the full-service spa followed by a healthy brunch at Fleur-De-Lis with Carolina gruyere shrimp and grits paired with a crisp Chardonnay in the morning. That same evening, they can come back to Southern-inspired Marc Bar & Restaurant for the rich plum and blackberry notes of a Cabernet Sauvignon paired with a grilled Australian rack of lamb served with roasted cauliflower puree and spring onion jus.
“We have three licensed sommeliers who have trained staff on how to pair the right wine for each entree. Every meal is prepared by our 13 sous-chefs, who all come from different culinary and cultural backgrounds,” says Woolridge. “We want guests to arrive hungry and ready to enjoy an upscale experience.”
