Bossco Auto Analysis Finds Bullbars Can Significantly Reduce Repair and Insurance Costs Amid Rising Wildlife Collisions

Bossco Auto’s latest analysis reveals bullbars could save Aussie drivers thousands in repair and insurance costs amid rising wildlife collisions.

-- As wildlife collisions rise across regional Australia, a new analysis from 4WD accessories company Bossco Auto suggests that installing a bullbar could be one of the smartest financial moves Aussie drivers can make, potentially saving thousands in vehicle repairs and insurance excesses.

With the average front-end collision repair now exceeding $5,000, and kangaroo, wallabie & wombat strikes accounting for over 50% of animal-related crashes in Australia, drivers are increasingly turning to bullbars not just for protection, but for peace of mind.

“When you factor in repair bills, rising insurance premiums, and the growing risk of animal collisions, a bullbar isn’t just an accessory, it’s a preventative investment,” said Andrew McNair, 4WD specialist at Bossco Auto. “Some of our customers have avoided major financial setbacks just because they had the right gear fitted.”

The Numbers:

  • Average Bossco bullbar cost: $1,500–$2,500 installed
  • Average repair from animal strike: $5,000–$10,000
  • Insurance excess typically payable: $800–$2,000
  • Time off-road without a bullbar after an accident: 2–4 weeks on average

Top 5 Bullbar Hotspots

Internal sales data from Bossco Auto reveals the top five postcodes where bullbars are flying off the shelves, highlighting regions where wildlife collisions are most likely or where locals are proactively protecting their vehicles:

  1. 0830 – Palmerston, NT
  2. 2480 – Lismore, NSW
  3. 4515 – Kilcoy, QLD
  4. 4701 – Rockhampton, QLD
  5. 5044 – Ipswich, QLD

“These areas are seeing consistently high demand. It aligns with what we hear from drivers, they’ve either hit a roo before, or know someone who has,” said Andrew.

A Rising Threat to Drivers

Wildlife collisions are most common during dawn, dusk, and winter months, especially in high-risk corridors through regional NSW, Victoria, and Queensland. Insurance reports confirm that kangaroo strikes are up 18% year-on-year, prompting calls for better awareness, and better front-end protection.

Bossco Auto, which supplies bullbars and nudge bars across Australia, says it has seen a significant increase in bullbar inquiries from first-time 4WD owners and grey nomads preparing for regional travel.

Smart Protection, No Claims Required

While car insurance is essential, Bossco argues that avoiding a claim altogether, by preventing damage in the first place, is often the smarter route to take. By fitting bull bars for 4WDs, drivers can often avoid costly insurance claims and downtime. With the increase of wildlife collisions, proactive protection is the key to protecting yourself, your vehicle, and your wallet.
