Blossom Bariatrics and Lotus Counseling Announce Partnership

Blossom Bariatrics has partnered with Krista Carpenter, MS, NCC, LPC of Lotus Counseling to provide additional pre- and post-operative bariatric surgery counseling.

“I love what I do and I love seeing positive change in my patients’ lives,” Dr. Tom Umbach shares.  “But I could sense that often my patients needed something more--something beyond my scope of training.”

Performing over 30 surgeries per week, Dr. Tom saw the need for extra psychological support in addition to Blossom’s current offerings. Blossom Bariatrics has long provided support groups and access to individual therapist Bobby Turner, but Dr. Tom and Blossom’s staff felt the need to find additional help with the growing number of patients desiring post surgery psychological care. “Many patients benefit from discussing their past behaviors and future goals with a professional and for that reason, I’m thrilled to add Krista Carpenter with Lotus Counseling to our talented team. She has a calm, warm approach with patients and tailors therapy to each individual and their particular needs.”

Krista Carpenter, MS, NCC, LPC of Lotus Counseling will provide pre- and post-operative bariatric surgery counseling services to Blossom Bariatrics patients. Carpenter is a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor and has worked with bariatric patients for over a decade; she specializes in helping individuals overcome food, weight, and body preoccupations and in establishing healthy behaviors. Her expertise in this field is unmatched as people from all over the world seek her guidance and help.

“Through our established pre- and post-operative care regimen, we could physically help our patients on their new journey to lose weight and establish healthy behaviors.  Now, adding Carpenter’s expertise to the already existing support and therapy options, our patients can receive crucial therapy that is essential to long-term and complete lifestyle success,” Dr. Tom explains.

Carpenter is excited about the opportunity to help bariatric patients. “It is important to focus on building a positive body image post bariatric surgery,” she enlightens.  “Weight loss patients have unique needs--changing the physical is only part of the weight loss process.  I’m thrilled to work with Dr. Tom and help our patients learn practical skills, achieve inner strength, and be empowered for life!”

Opening Lotus Counseling in 2013, Carpenter realized the need for specialized Eating Disorder treatment in the Grand Valley--Grand Junction, Colorado; she is a Licensed Professional Counselor who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin in 2000 and earned her Masters of Science degree in Counseling in 2003 from Texas A&M University.

Since 2003 Carpenter has provided counseling to individuals with a wide variety of concerns. Currently, she specializes in treating adults and adolescents with disordered eating, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and a variety of other concerns. She uses a variety of modalities in her treatment including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Relational, and Solution Focused Therapy.
