Beautiful Scenery and Challenging Terrain: Buggyra ZM Racing Kicks Off the “Chinese” Dakar

Aliyyah Koloc, the 20-year-old driver for Buggyra ZM Racing, together with her navigator Sébastien Delaunay, has embarked on a tough challenge in China.

-- At the Taklimakan Rally — one of the world’s most demanding cross-country events — they have successfully completed the prologue and the first stage in a highly competitive field.

“After a few weeks of logistical complications, we finally made it to the prologue. We've overcome all the issues along the way and we’re ready,” said Buggyra team principal Martin Koloc at the start of the event.

The crew of the Red-Lined REVO T1+ GTR was immediately put to the test in both the prologue and the first stage. Aliyyah finished 9th out of 109 competitors in the prologue. Today’s 161 km-long section of Stage 1 proved to be even more challenging.

“The track was very demanding. We had to stay extremely focused because it was easy to make a mistake. We had to change a tyre and got lost a few times. Since the briefings are in Chinese, we ended up crossing the wrong bridge and lost a lot of time. At the finish, we were given a 10-minute penalty for supposedly not crossing the line correctly, which pushed us down to 33rd place. But we’re not letting that get to us. I have a good feeling about the race so far and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow,” the young racer shared.

“This rally is very different from what I’m used to. The language barrier is a big challenge, even with a translator. We’re also back to using a paper road book instead of an electronic one — so Seb definitely isn’t getting bored! But the scenery out here is stunning. If I weren’t driving, I’d stop and take pictures,” Aliyyah added from the bivouac.

The total route of the Taklimakan Rally spans approximately 4,500 kilometres, with 2,350 kilometres of timed stages. The finish is scheduled for June 1st in Kashgar.
