-- BALTIMORE, MD — Se Wigs, a Baltimore hair and wig shop, announced a new partnership with local support groups to provide confidential styling sessions for women experiencing hair loss due to illness. The arrangement, which begins this month, connects women referred through participating support organizations with private consultations at the Se Wigs studio in Baltimore. The initiative is designed to give women facing medical hair loss a discreet, judgment-free setting to explore natural-looking styling options during a difficult period. Organizers said the program grew out of requests from women who wanted support beyond what typical retail settings offer.
Hair loss related to chemotherapy, alopecia and other medical conditions affects a significant share of patients undergoing treatment, and many report that the emotional impact of losing their hair is as difficult as other aspects of illness, according to the American Cancer Society. Support groups in the Baltimore area have said members frequently ask for guidance on where to find styling help that treats the process with sensitivity rather than as a routine purchase. The new collaboration between Se Wigs and these groups is intended to address that gap by formalizing referral pathways and private appointment scheduling.

Under the new arrangement, women referred by partner support groups can schedule one-on-one appointments at the Se Wigs studio outside of regular walk-in hours, allowing for a quieter, more private environment. Sessions include guidance on fitting, styling and everyday care suited to each woman's circumstances, with staff trained to work with clients who may be experiencing hair thinning or loss for the first time. Appointments can be arranged in person for local clients or through video consultation for women who are unable to travel due to treatment schedules.
The program does not require women to make a purchase to participate in an initial consultation, and support group facilitators are coordinating scheduling so that referrals remain confidential. Se Wigs said it is working with several Baltimore-area organizations that serve women managing chronic illness, cancer treatment and autoimmune-related hair loss, with plans to expand the number of participating groups over time. The company said appointment slots reserved for referred clients will be reviewed periodically based on demand from partner organizations.
“Many of the women who come to us are dealing with hair loss for the first time and don't know where to start, so we wanted to create a calmer, more private way for them to get support,” said Shaina Menda, Founder of Se Wigs. “Working directly with local support groups lets us reach women earlier, at a point when a little guidance can make a real difference.”
