-- Created by a career builder, Ohutu is a health & safety app designed for builders by builders. The aim of the app is to make health & safety compliance easy for contractors, especially those who want to do the right thing but are confused about what is actually required of them.
The biggest problem with health & safety is that it can be time consuming and expensive to create the necessary paperwork for every project. As a consequence, many projects are left with no health & safety provision at all, running the risk of accidents and possible prosecution by the HSE. While health & safety companies can provide these documents, builders are still left in the dark and have to pay for the same services over and again to be compliant.
The idea behind Ohutu was simple: to create a wizard where builders answer questions based on their job, which then produces the relevant paperwork and, critically, gives the end user a lot more knowledge and power to make sites even safer. As well as creating the Construction Phase Plan, the core document required to comply with CDM 2015, the app also automatically creates a tailored health & safety policy and includes the relevant HSE leaflets for free.
Ohutu is quick and simple to use and offers everything a builder needs to get all of the necessary documentation they must have to comply with CDM 2015, for every project they do. Ohutu shows users what each document does, where it needs to go and who needs to see it. This is important in combating the common attitudes amongst builders that health & safety is nothing more than red tape.
There's an iOS and Android mobile app that enables weekly reports to be filed on site, people to be inducted, a photographic record to be kept, and plenty of other useful features too. Using the NHS’s digital platform, the app also knows the nearest hospital with an A&E department. So, if the worst should happen, at the tap of a button staff on site can see the quickest route to get there.
To demonstrate just how useful Ohutu is, the app can be trialled for free on any builder’s first project.
