Abuse Guardian Attorneys Announce Major Massage Envy Sexual Assault Lawsuit

The attorneys at Abuse Guardian have filed a major new lawsuit against Massage Envy, representing the claims of six different women who say they were sexually assaulted at franchise locations in California.

In a California press conference on August 20, 2018, the attorneys at AbuseGuardian.com have announced a major new lawsuit against Massage Envy, the nationwide massage spa chain currently at the center of a sexual assault crisis.

Filed by attorneys from Thompson Law Offices, P.C. and Laffey, Bucci & Kent, LLP, the lawsuit includes the claims of six separate women, all of whom say they were sexually assaulted during massages at Massage Envy locations in California.

Hailing from Los Angeles and San Francisco, the six women’s allegations involve six different Massage Envy locations, including franchise locations in Studio City, Elk Grove, Beverly Hills, Redondo Beach, West Covina and Burlingame.

In court documents, the women accuse Massage Envy of doing nothing for sexual assault survivors. They say the franchise has a policy of concealing sexual assault reports and frequently fails to fire abuse massage therapists who have been accused of sexual assault. In fact, one of the plaintiffs says she was assaulted by Brandon Davis, a man who was recently arrested on charges of assaulting no fewer than 13 different women during his tenure at the Burlingame Massage Envy. In their lawsuit, the attorneys say Davis was allowed to remain an employee at Massage Envy even after several abuse complaints were lodged against him.

According to a troubling investigation from Buzzfeed News, nearly 200 women have reported sexual assaults at Massage Envy locations nationwide, coming forward in police reports, civil court documents and complaints to Massage Envy’s corporate office. But in their new lawsuit, the attorneys at Abuse Guardian claim that many sexual assaults at the massage spa franchise have yet to come to public attention. In a press release, the attorneys call for a full accounting of sexual assaults at Massage Envy, hoping that increased transparency will help survivors process their grief and inspire other victims to step forward.

In their press release, the law firms call for other sexual assault survivors to come forward, writing, “we would implore any women in this County or throughout the State who experienced any improper conduct by Brandon Davis or other Massage Envy masseuses to come forward and join the brave women that have already spoken up and help us put an end to the epidemic of sexual assaults occurring at Massage Envy locations […] throughout the State of California.” The new lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of California, County of San Mateo on August 20, 2018. It has been logged as case number 18-cv-03706.
