4Patriots Responds to Food Date Label Advice

Are “use by” food date labels more about taste or safety? Experts say most food is safe five to seven days beyond those dates. 4Patriots Survival Food can last up to 25 years.

-- Food safety experts say that Americans are throwing away far too much perfectly good food. According to a recent article from KOMONews.com in Seattle, Wash., most food does not go bad immediately following the “use by” date.

The dates usually are more of an indication of when the taste of food is no longer optimal, rather than about product expiration. Safety is not a factor, according to Eyob Mazengia, food program manager at the King County Department of Public Health.

Still, there is plenty of confusion among consumers, who end up throwing away food that is safe to eat. Mazengia and other food experts say that other than baby formula, food can be safely consumed five to seven days after the “use by” or “best by” dates.

Expiration dates no one will probably ever have to worry about are found on survival food pouches. And that includes those offered by 4Patriots, LLC of Nashville, Tenn. The company’s survival food has a shelf life of approximately 25 years for most items.

“One of the best things about our survival food is that you can store it in a cool, dry place and then not even think about it again until you need it,” said Allen Baler, Partner at 4Patriots. “It will still be as fresh and tasty in 25 years as it would be if you heated it and ate it today.”

Baler’s company provides a variety of products, including survival food, that help people become more self-reliant and independent.

4Patriots Survival Food meals are offered in five different kits – 72-hour, one-week, one-month, three-month and one-year. The meals can be prepared in less than 20 minutes, and they require only boiling water.

The food is contained in easy-to-store Mylar pouches, which keep out air, moisture and light. They are tucked inside tough, stackable totes that are discreet and store anywhere, including the basement, attic, garage, cabin or even an RV.

“Survival food is just one of the products we offer to help people prepare for an uncertain future,” Baler said. “Much more can be found in our latest 4Patriots Catalog.

“In addition to a wide variety of survival food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert, we offer solar-powered generators, a water purifier system for your home and on the go, a power hub for your car battery, health-related products, and even a military-grade EMP bag.

“Our customers tell us that the single best thing about preparing for a disaster is that they now have peace of mind. No matter what happens, they’ll be ready.”

4Patriots provides emergency food products that are shelf-stable for 25 years. 4Patriots Survival Food meals are made without any genetically-modified products, preservatives or fillers. The kits are available in 72-hour, one-week, four-week, three-month and one-year supplies.
