Most of us have good intentions when we store leftover food for another day. But often the mistakes we make when storing it end up making that food inedible.According to a recent article from KPRC-TV in Houston, Texas, storing food the right way saves money while cutting down on waste.
The article states that 20 percent of purchased food is not consumed, costing the average household about $2,200 in food waste annually. The main culprits when it comes to food spoilage are oxygen, moisture, light, microbial growth and temperature.

Ignoring the importance of nutrition in the foods that are stored. Sometimes people are so concerned about the volume of food they store that they forget about vitamin and mineral content.
