Mexico will be looking to win the Gold Cup for a third successive time following victories in 2009 and two years ago when they defeated the United States 4-2 in the final.José Manuel de la Torre’s side will be coming into the tournament having failed to advance to the last four of the Confederations Cup in Brazil. Mexico lost their first game with a 2-1 defeat against Italy. They followed this up with a 2-0 defeat against the hosts before winning their final game of the tournament against Japan thanks to a brace from star striker Javier Hernandez.
The hosts have been beaten in the last two Gold Cup finals and will be looking for their first Gold Cup success since 2007. Jurgen Klinsmann’s side come into the Gold Cup in fine form having beaten Germany, Jamaica, Panama and Honduras in their last four games.
USA will be in Group C along side Costa Rica, Belize and Cuba while Mexico will face Panama, 2000 winners Canada and Martinique in Group A. Group B will have Honduras, El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti all looking to advance to the knockout stages.
