Zhejiang Implements Comprehensive Grid Maintenance and Operations to Confront Summer Peak Electricity Demand

Share this news:

-- Since mid-May, maximum temperatures across most of Zhejiang Province have consistently soared above 30°C, heralding the power industry’s critical annual summer peak demand period. Recently, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Company has placed grid quality enhancement and reinforcement at the heart of its strategy, undertaking comprehensive measures to boost power supply reliability and fortify safety safeguards for the impending seasonal surge.

In Xian County, Ninghai District of Ningbo City, the power supply department is actively progressing with the 35-kilovolt Shuangfeng Substation’s comprehensive automation upgrade and integrated maintenance project. This initiative is designed to fully modernize the substation’s automated control systems, proactively eliminate latent hazards in aging equipment, and significantly elevate the grid’s operational safety, stability, and intelligent management capacity. As various new power sources across Zhejiang Province gradually come online, the region’s power supply reliability has been markedly reinforced for this summer. Nevertheless, the confluence of natural disasters—including extreme heatwaves, floods, and typhoons—alongside shifts in the international energy landscape, has introduced new layers of uncertainty to Zhejiang’s seasonal power security.

State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power is intensifying efforts to ensure the robust operation and maintenance of ultra-high voltage transmission corridors, address equipment vulnerabilities, commission critical projects, and meticulously implement flood and typhoon prevention protocols. These actions collectively enhance the company’s emergency response preparedness. Concurrently, it is steadily expanding inter-provincial power transmission channels, having increased the grid’s total power reception capacity from 47.8 million kilowatts to 52 million kilowatts.

The company is also dedicated to ensuring the timely commissioning of new power generation facilities, with an anticipated addition of 10 million kilowatts before the peak summer period. It is actively securing external resource supplies and coordinating with government bodies to guarantee comprehensive primary and secondary energy provision. This ensures coal-fired power generation achieves a calorific value of 5,200 kcal during peak hours and that maximum daily gas supply meets the requirements for supporting peak electricity generation of 13.5 million kilowatts. Furthermore, the company rigorously manages the non-shutdown and operational disruption rates of centrally dispatched coal-fired units while continuously strengthening emergency response capabilities. These multifaceted efforts provide a substantial power supply foundation, underpinning the stable operation of the province’s economy and society.(Correspondent: Guo Jue)
