-- UNITED STATES – September 17, 2026 – YourSalaryTax, an international salary calculator, is helping workers compare gross and net pay across 22 countries as labour taxes continue to vary widely across OECD economies.

According to the OECD’s Taxing Wages 2026 report, the average tax wedge for a single worker without children earning the average wage rose 0.15 percentage points to 35.1% in 2025. The measure includes personal income tax and employee and employer social security contributions, less applicable cash benefits, as a share of total labour costs.
The OECD reported that the tax wedge increased in 24 of its 38 member countries, declined in 11 and remained unchanged in three. Belgium recorded the highest level at 52.5%, while Colombia recorded the lowest at 0%. For a one-earner married couple with two children, the OECD average was 26.2%.
“When more than a third of labour costs disappears before payday in the average advanced economy, workers deserve to see exactly where it goes,” said Orhan Oğuz of YourSalaryTax. “A single percentage hides income tax, social security and pension contributions that behave differently in every country. Our aim is to replace guesswork with a calculation drawn from each nation’s own tax authority.”
Different Systems, Different Take-Home Pay
The figures highlight how location affects gross salary and take-home pay. The OECD recorded differing annual movements, including a 1.95-percentage-point increase in Estonia.
YourSalaryTax addresses these differences by applying country-specific tax bands and thresholds to salary calculations. The platform covers 22 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Singapore.
Its website states that rates are sourced from the authorities responsible for setting them, including HMRC in the United Kingdom, the IRS in the United States and Germany’s federal finance authorities. Calculations separate deductions such as income tax, social contributions and applicable pension-related amounts rather than presenting a single combined figure.
“Tax thresholds and contribution rates change regularly, and a stale figure can quietly mislead people,” Oğuz added. “The platform refreshes its calculations against official published bands, helping users compare current estimates rather than relying on older assumptions.”
Alongside country calculators, YourSalaryTax provides country comparison tools and profession-based salary information. The service is designed for informational use, and its methodology notes that calculator outputs are estimates rather than financial or tax advice.
