With Earth Day Approaching, Pro QC Creates Awareness For Supplier Social Responsibility & Sustainability at Supplier Locations Worldwide

Earth Day is approaching on April 22nd, with events scheduled worldwide to show support regarding social responsibility, environmental protection and sustainability.

It’s been several years since the international community drew its attention to factory conditions in growing markets around the world, but the news continues to uncover instances of poor conditions in factories or within the supply chains. Pro QC was among the first third-party quality assurance providers to perform social audits on-site at supplier locations worldwide. The organization continues to address the demand and stay current with industry association requirements and other applicable standards.

SA8000 was one of the first standards addressing worker conditions in factories, with ISO 26000 later adopted as a broader guidance document in 2010. In addition to NGO developed resources, many organizations now have unique sets of requirements as applicable to environmental compliance and social responsibility. ISO 14001, the environmental management system standard, was updated last year. Organizations certified to the previous version will need to transition soon. Pro QC can help.

Over the fast few decades, Pro QC has seen an increase in requests for social and sustainability audits. . As Earth Day approaches, it is expected to draw additional attention to issues stakeholders no longer perceive as optional.

Benefits of ensuring supplier social responsibility include:
Human Resources - Recruitment & Retention
Increased Product Quality & Safety
Risk Management
Brand Management
Government Intervention

Pro QC’s Regional Director in North America recently published a related article in ASQ’s Journal for Quality and Participation. In the article, Jennifer states that “underage workers, blocked emergency exits, poor ventilation, and unsanitary living conditions are not always the first considerations when evaluating new or existing suppliers. Amid a global marketplace demanding competitive pricing and tight production schedules, social responsibility (SR) has earned a place at the strategic table and continues to gain momentum as well as the support of key stakeholders.”
