-- To expand Hong Kong’s talent pool, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) continues to participate in the HYAB Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland and Overseas 2025. This year, 13 Hong Kong tertiary students are participating in the internship programme on the Chinese mainland provided by the Company, with positions covering mainland utility operations, renewable energy business, and extended business. The group offers comprehensive training and support to interns, broadening their horizons and helping them develop a clearer career path.
Towngas has participated in this programme for five consecutive years. This year, 13 interns have been selected, with over 20% being postgraduate students. Apart from local university students, participants also include Hong Kong students studying overseas and on the mainland, including those from prestigious universities in the United Kingdom and the United States. Lam Hiu-fung, one of this year’s interns who is currently studying Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo in the United States, made a special trip back to Hong Kong to participate in the programme. “The business scope of Towngas is closely related to my major. I am fortunate to be able to intern at Towngas's procurement department, and hope that this opportunity will allow me to learn about environmental protection and the collection and procurement of low-carbon materials, and to understand more about industry trends.”
The 13 interns will be assigned to different cities on the mainland for an eight-week summer internship, covering a wide range of work areas including market development, technology and engineering, finance, operations management, safety management, human resources, insurance business, and smart kitchen business departments. This will help them seize mainland development opportunities and explore more career prospects. Towngas will cover major expenses such as transport and accommodation costs for the interns and provide them with a series of workplace and safety knowledge training courses. Dedicated staff members will be assigned to support the interns, preparing them for their future career development.
Mr Lam Ming-wing, Chief Human Resources Officer of Towngas, encourages this year’s interns to make the most of their mainland internship opportunities and understand the local workplace culture. “Over the past four years, Towngas has provided internship opportunities for more than 60 students. This year’s interns come from different disciplines, including energy, environmental science, engineering, carbon reduction technology, public administration, finance, and others. We hope that during their internship with the Company, they can apply what they have learnt and absorb knowledge and the latest information about the energy industry, accumulate workplace experience and build professional networks to enhance their competitiveness.”
Towngas has always been committed to nurturing talent and organises various diversified trainee and internship programmes, such as the Technician Trainee Programme, the Career in a Nutshell Programme, the Post-50 Internship Programme, and the Management Trainee Programme, continuously injecting new momentum into the energy industry.
