Towngas and HKHS host “Nutritious Mid-Autumn” event to promote healthy eating and eco-friendly festivities

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has once again partnered with the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) to host the “Celebrating Mid-Autumn with Your Neighbours” event at Kwun Lung Lau, an HKHS rental estate in Kennedy Town, for the fourth consecutive year. The event was also broadcast live to other HKHS estates, bringing joy and care to 500 online and offline participants. In line with the current trend towards healthier lifestyles, this year’s theme, “Nutritious Mid-Autumn”, aims to promote healthy eating and encourage an eco-friendly celebration of the festival.

The event featured game booths and lantern riddle competitions, incorporating knowledge about nutritious eating habits in a fun and educational manner. Celebrity volunteers performed nostalgic classics, while residents from HKHS’s Lok Man Sun Chuen delivered an impressive intergenerational dance performance. Mr Peter Wong Wai-yee, Managing Director of Towngas, and Mr James Chan Yum-min, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of HKHS, attended the event and joined in the games, sharing in the festive spirit.

In his speech, Mr Wong said, “In recent years, Towngas and HKHS have worked closely on numerous community projects, achieving many encouraging successes. This year’s theme relates to food, which is one of Towngas’s strengths. We hope to encourage our elderly friends to eat healthily and live nutritiously.” Mr Chan added, “HKHS is delighted to collaborate with Towngas. Through the efforts of our two excellent volunteer teams, we’re spreading the concepts of ‘warmth’ and ‘neighbourliness’. We look forward to continuing our partnership in elderly care and promoting community harmony and inclusion.”

Concurrently, Towngas’ “Mooncakes for the Community” programme, which began in 2001, continues to spread warmth by distributing mooncakes to those in need, including the elderly, underprivileged families, and individuals with disabilities. On 7 September, the Towngas Volunteer Service Team and the Water Supplies Department Volunteer Team participated in the “Passing on Love in Sham Shui Po” home visit programme organised by the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council, delivering care packages and festival greetings to elderly singleton, elderly doubleton, or all-elderly households in Shek Kip Mei Estate.

This year, Towngas has joined forces with Legislative Council members, District Councillors, charities and community organisations to distribute over 320,000 mooncakes, benefitting more than 150 charitable organisations and groups. Over the past two decades, Towngas has given out a total of over 3.61 million mooncakes through this initiative.
