Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame Member Mike Burg exposes how men are being misled about the risks of testosterone replacement therapy

Mike Burg, a leading consumer protection attorney, exposes the risks of taking testosterone supplements for hypogonadism, a condition that Big Pharma calls "low t" in order to induce more men to use their products, in "The Truth About Low Testosterone Therapy" on askmikeburg.com, a website that helps people with everyday legal issues. Hypogonadism is often misunderstood, and many men take testosterone replacement therapy for the wrong reasons. These products were never approved to treat age-related hypogonadism.

Drug companies ask you questions like, Do you have less energy? Do you have a decrease in libido or erections? Mike says, "Of course. The way the human body is made is that almost all men experience a natural decline in testosterone as they get older, so they do have less testosterone at 50 or 60 than when they were 30. For some men, along with this natural decline in testosterone, they experience decreased energy, libido, and sexual or athletic performance. It is this very sensitive area of feeling like less of a man that the drug companies exploit in their marketing of these products."

Medical studies have shown that testosterone replacement therapies can be dangerous and cause an increased risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), heart attacks, stroke, or even death.

In November 2013, a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association linked testosterone therapy in 8,700 men to an increase in cardiovascular adverse events such as heart attack and ischemic stroke, sometimes resulting in death. Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, a cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, describes the heart risks posed by testosterone replacement therapy as substantial. That's equivalent to smoking one or two packs of cigarettes a day, or having sky-high cholesterol, Dr. Lopez told USA Today Online on January 29, 2014.

In January 2014, a larger study of more than 55,000 men, published in the online medical journal PLOS/ONE, found that men taking testosterone replacement therapy faced a significantly increased risk of suffering a heart attack. The PLOS/ONE study found that men under 65 with a history of heart disease faced a nearly three-fold increase in the risk of heart attack as a result of using testosterone replacement therapy. The study also found a more than two-fold increased risk of having a heart attack for men over 65 who did not have a history of heart disease, as a result of using testosterone replacement therapy.

There is ongoing litigation against the drug companies over testosterone replacement therapy. The Burg Simpson firm has been appointed to a leadership role in the testosterone replacement therapy multidistrict litigation. If you think you have a case, visit askmikeburg.com for more information.
