Anthony (Tony) Scheer, partner at the firm of Rawls, Scheer, Clary & Mingo, PLLC, has been named to the Top 100 North Carolina Super Lawyers for 2019. Super Lawyers recognizes the top lawyers in North Carolina through a proprietary process that involves peer nominations and independent research. Scheer is a former prosecutor who has been a practicing trial lawyer in Charlotte since 1993. He is one of only eight criminal defense attorneys from Charlotte selected.“I truly appreciate being recognized like this by my fellow lawyers,” said Scheer. “So many of the so-called ‘best lawyers’ lists are vanity ads that you get for buying advertising from someone’s website. Scheer’s practice focuses on criminal defense and whistleblower litigation. He is a Board-Certified Specialist in State and Federal Criminal Law. He primarily represents people accused of serious crimes in Charlotte, across North Carolina, and elsewhere around the U.S.
After graduating with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1992, Scheer clerked for a Federal judge in the Eastern District of Virginia. He moved to Charlotte in 1993 to take a job as a prosecutor in the District Attorney’s Office, where he handled mostly drug trafficking and violent crimes. In 1997, Scheer left the DA’s office and joined the law firm of Rawls & Dickinson.
He became a partner in the firm that is now Rawls, Scheer, Clary & Mingo in 2001. He handles all felonies, white collar crimes, grand jury investigations and college disciplinary actions. He is also one of only a few lawyers who represent people blowing the whistle on companies that steal from the Government and has recovered over $6,000,000 of the taxpayers’ money while winning large rewards for his clients.
