-- The Forttuna Councils, a flagship initiative of The Forttuna Group, is a global leadership ecosystem that convenes visionary leaders across health, business, technology, policy, and social impact. Designed as a high-trust platform rather than a traditional network, the Councils bring together changemakers through Global Advisory Boards, strategic dialogues, and cross-border collaborations. By fostering credible exchange and collective intelligence, Forttuna Councils empower leaders to co-create solutions that advance ethical leadership, inclusive care, and long-term societal well-being. Through this collaborative framework, Forttuna builds a global community of leaders committed to transforming industries and improving lives through purpose-driven innovation.

Toni Curtis, Director of BirthWise Doula Services, is appointed as a Member of the Forttuna Health & Wellness Council Global Advisory Board, an award-winning maternal health advocate, educator, and full-spectrum doula with more than three decades of experience supporting families across the fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. Her work is rooted in a deep commitment to reproductive justice and the belief that safe birth is a fundamental human right.
As the Founder and Director of BirthWise Doula Services, Toni has built a Charlotte-based practice recognized for its evidence-based, holistic, and person-centered approach to care. BirthWise is known for delivering services that prioritize dignity, informed choice, and continuity of care, ensuring that each client receives support tailored to their unique medical, emotional, and cultural needs.
Toni’s career began in the mid-1990s as a peer educator, where she first recognized the critical gaps in maternal health education and support, particularly for underserved communities. Since then, she has dedicated her professional journey to improving perinatal outcomes through culturally responsive education, skilled advocacy, and consistent, compassionate care.
Her approach integrates a wide range of disciplines, including childbirth education, lactation counseling, community health work, and body-based practices. By combining clinical insight with traditional knowledge systems, Toni creates care models that address both the physical and emotional dimensions of childbirth. Her use of Spinning Babies®-informed techniques and other holistic modalities reflects her commitment to optimizing physiological birth outcomes while respecting each client’s individual experience.
A nationally recognized leader in maternal health, Toni currently serves as the Director of Advocacy for DONA International, world’s largest doula organizations. In this role, she collaborates with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community organizations to expand access to high-quality doula support and address systemic inequities in maternal health outcomes.
Through her advocacy work, Toni has contributed to national and global conversations on maternal health equity, emphasizing the importance of culturally competent care, patient autonomy, and the elimination of disparities in birth outcomes. Her leadership continues to influence policies and practices that aim to improve maternal and infant health across diverse populations.
Toni is also the creator of The Lifespan Birth Method™, an innovative framework that redefines how birth professionals understand and support the childbirth process. This model emphasizes the natural physiology of birth while incorporating a lifespan perspective that considers the long-term health and well-being of both parent and child.
Building on this framework, she developed the Physiological Birth Practitioners Program, which equips birth professionals with trauma-informed and equity-centered tools to provide respectful, informed, and effective care. These programs have been instrumental in shaping a new generation of birth workers who are committed to improving outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based practice.
Her work consistently focuses on empowering families, particularly those from historically underserved communities, to feel informed, supported, and confident throughout their reproductive journey. By centering the voices and experiences of her clients, Toni ensures that care is not only clinically effective but also deeply respectful and inclusive.
Beyond her direct service and advocacy, Toni is a respected educator and speaker who shares her expertise with professionals and communities worldwide. Through workshops, training programs, and public speaking engagements, she continues to raise awareness about maternal health issues and promote best practices in doula care.
Toni’s impact extends beyond individual births to systemic change. Her efforts contribute to reshaping how healthcare systems understand and support childbirth, advocating for models that prioritize human connection, informed consent, and equitable access to care.
Within the Forttuna Health & Wellness Council, Toni brings invaluable expertise in maternal health, advocacy, and community-centered care. Her insights contribute to strategic discussions on how healthcare systems can become more inclusive, responsive, and effective in meeting the needs of diverse populations.
Her appointment to the Global Advisory Board reflects Forttuna’s commitment to leaders who are advancing health equity and transforming care through compassion and innovation. Toni’s work exemplifies how dedicated advocacy and education can drive meaningful change in healthcare systems worldwide.
As a Member of the Forttuna Health & Wellness Council Global Advisory Board, Toni Curtis strengthens the Councils’ mission to unite leaders improving global health outcomes. Her legacy of advocacy, education, and compassionate care reinforces Forttuna’s vision of leadership that prioritizes dignity, equity, and lasting impact across communities worldwide.
