The team at Business Alliance Inc. Connects Brokers, Brands, And Suppliers To Elevate The Franchise Industry

“When most people hear about franchising, they immediately think of quick-service restaurants,” says Brandon Clifford, CEO of Business Alliance Inc. (BAI). “What they don’t realize is that there’s a franchise for everything from cleaning services to gyms. We’ve created a platform that supports and elevates the entire franchise ecosystem, making it easier for everyone to do business with one another.”

Founded in 1991, BAI has long been recognized as an essential resource for investors, brokers, brands, and suppliers in the franchise industry. In addition to offering comprehensive training and support for its Registered Franchise Consultants, the group provides a wide range of services—from online workshops to networking events. It also hosts an annual three-day conference, creating opportunities for members from across the country to “do business face-to-face.”

A former restaurateur, Clifford became interested in the industry after meeting several successful franchisees at food industry trade shows. After joining BAI as a broker, his entrepreneurial instincts and innovative ideas soon caught the attention of the group’s executive leadership. In 2024, he was appointed CEO.

“One of the things I loved about being a broker was inspiring others to make the leap into entrepreneurship,” Clifford says. “The franchise model gives them a playbook to follow, and it also creates guardrails for franchisees. It makes their investment a safer bet than starting an unproven business from scratch.”

The Benefits of Franchising

“There are a lot of misconceptions about franchising,” Clifford says. “People think you don’t really own the business, or you’re just buying a job. That’s not true. Owning a franchise is just like owning any other small business. It’s a great business model, and we’re here to champion it.”

By connecting potential business owners with investment-ready brands, BAI’s brokers work as franchising matchmakers. They link franchisees with everything from franchise-friendly lenders to CPAs and experienced franchise attorneys. The goal is to reduce barriers for new franchisees by streamlining the process. As Clifford sees it, this is a great option for people looking to make smart investments during turbulent times.

“Historically speaking, franchises are extremely resilient during tough times,” Clifford says. “A lot of our franchisees have survived multiple economic downturns, and they want to invest in something they can control. Owning a franchise can be a real safety net.”

Network Effects

One of BAI’s most exciting new initiatives is FranLink, a community-driven networking platform for franchise professionals slated for debut in late 2024. In addition to providing a central data hub for franchise brokers, FranLink will host training programs, due diligence and research tools, and professional networking resources.

“FranLink is the newest example of BAI’s collaborative and innovative culture,” Clifford says. “We care about more than just assisting with the dealmaking and transactions of the franchising business. We want to bring people and organizations together in a way that benefits everyone.”

“We’ve created a platform that supports and elevates the entire franchise ecosystem.” —Brandon Clifford, CEO, Business Alliance Inc.
