-- The Carpet Store, a family-owned flooring and home remodeling business at 305 East Reed Street in Red Oak, Iowa, announces that owner Matt Riley is scheduled to complete the final time requirement for IICRC Master status in December 2026. IICRC stands for the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, a nonprofit organization that certifies professionals in the cleaning and restoration industries. According to the company, Riley has already fulfilled every other credential required for the designation.

Riley and his wife, Denise, opened The Carpet Store in May 2007. Nearly two decades later, the business remains family-owned and locally operated. It serves homeowners and businesses in Red Oak, Clarinda, Atlantic, Shenandoah, and Glenwood.
A Credential Path Reaching Its Final Stage
Riley holds ten IICRC certifications, including Carpet Cleaning Technician, Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician, Water Restoration Technician, Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician, and Trauma and Crime Scene Technician. He also holds three IICRC Journeyman designations: Journeyman Fire and Smoke Restorer, Journeyman Textile Cleaner, and Journeyman Water Restorer. The Master designation is the next level in the IICRC program, and the remaining requirement is a matter of time in the field.
Riley says his reason for pursuing the credentials was practical. "I got certified not because I had to, but because I wanted to truly understand what I was doing," said Riley. "When you know how a floor is supposed to perform, you install it completely differently."
The company is also an IICRC Certified Firm, and Riley is a State of Iowa Licensed Contractor.
A Business Opened in May 2007
The Carpet Store opened with a stated mission of providing Red Oak and surrounding communities with honest advice, quality flooring, and professional installation. The company operates without a marketing department, television advertising, or a franchise model. Its owners say the business relies on craftsmanship, honesty, and personal service to earn customers.
What began as a small showroom has grown into a destination for homeowners and businesses looking for current flooring options and a team involved in the outcome of each project. The company describes its approach as partnering with customers so the choices they make are practical, lasting, and suited to their home or business.
"We are a small business in a small town," said Riley. "We compete by being better. Better prepared, better trained, and more personally invested in the outcome than anyone else in our market."
One Team From Design Through Installation
At many flooring companies, the person who sells a floor, the person who measures the home, and the person who installs it are different people. The Carpet Store handles those steps with its own team and does not use subcontractors for installation.
Denise Riley brings nearly two decades of design experience to each consultation. She visits the home, takes the measurements herself, and reviews each space from a design perspective. Her role continues past the sale, and she confirms the details before any plank or tile is ordered. Matt Riley then installs the floors Denise designs.
"Denise doesn't just sell a floor," said Riley. "She helps our clients imagine what their home could feel like. That's a completely different conversation than what you get at a big box store."
The company says each floor is custom to the home and the client. "No two floors are the same," said Riley. "Every home is different, every client is different, and every installation we do reflects that. We don't do cookie cutter."
What Goes Into an Installation
Riley says much of the work in a flooring project happens out of sight. Subfloor preparation and material acclimation, the process of letting flooring adjust to the temperature and humidity of a home before it is installed, both affect how a floor performs over time.
"Most people don't realize how much goes into a great installation," said Riley. "The floor you see is only part of it. What's underneath, how the subfloor is prepared, how the material is acclimated, all of that matters. We don't skip steps."
Product Selection and Additional Services
The showroom carries carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl, laminate, tile, and natural stone from brands including Mohawk, Anderson Tuftex, Shaw, Dal-Tile, and Pergo. Products come with manufacturer-backed warranties, and the company says its pricing is competitive with large retailers.
Beyond new flooring, the team provides subfloor repair, area rug binding, custom area rugs, carpet repair and re-stretching, and commercial installations. A shop-at-home service brings samples to a customer's residence so the material can be viewed in the space where it will be installed. The company also offers free design consultations with Denise.
The showroom also houses Designs by Denise, a women's clothing boutique operated by the Rileys.
Customer Feedback From Southwest Iowa
Customers have shared their experiences with the company. Jennifer and Tom of Red Oak, who built a new home, said Denise visited twice, brought samples both times, and never made them feel rushed. "Matt's installation was so clean our builder asked us who did the work," they said.
Rick, a property manager in Atlantic, described The Carpet Store as the only flooring company he trusts. "They show up when they say they will, the work is always exceptional, and Matt's knowledge of materials and installation is unlike anyone else I've worked with," said Rick.
Carol of Shenandoah replaced carpet she had used for fifteen years. "What Matt installed doesn't look like anything you'd find at a big box store," said Carol. "It looks like it was made for my home, because it was."
Riley says the relationships behind that feedback guide how the company works. "Our clients trust us with their most personal spaces," said Riley. "That's not something we take lightly. When I walk into a home, I'm not thinking about the next job. I'm thinking about this one. This client. This floor."
