Providing information to parents in an easy-to-understand manner has been difficult for many schools but it has been made even more difficult by regulations and the threat of security problems dogging many external systems.TASC Software have now provided a solution in the form of ‘Insight’ a new package that allows schools to keep absolutely up to date with the information stored within the existing SIMS MIS and also making it available to both pupils and parents.
Existing data can be collated and collected in real-time and shared with all interested parties immediately and securely. Everything from the school calendar to pupil reports are available but it doesn’t end there. With the relevant permissions in place, the data can also be updated and stored right back into the main SIMS database, keeping everything in one place.
Of course, even though the data is in one place this doesn’t stop many schools having multiple logins which soon become unwieldy and difficult to manage. When this happens, security is at risk so Insight solves this by linking to other systems and allowing for single sign on.
Pete Rushton at TASC said. “Consultants found our single log-in solution to be particularly useful in many schools who battle with a torrent of systems and logins. Very often post-it notes are stuck to monitors with passwords on them which is dangerous when the sensitive nature of the data is considered. By having a single log-in to all systems this can be eliminated.”
Of course one of the biggest factors with any system is cost and this is where Insight really wins. It is estimated that pupils take home 25 bits of paper each year at a cost similar to that of the implementation of Insight. Therefore the system is price neutral as all communication can now be done online.
