-- Sept. 4, 2019 – Brandon, Florida grew by nearly a third between the 2000 and 2010 censuses alone. The Brandon area is now home to more than a quarter of a million residents, three-quarters of whom do not go to church regularly.
Since opening its doors nearly six years ago, Radiant Church has focused on ministering to those who have drifted away from congregational worship. Pastor Aaron Burke and his wife, Katie, were moved by a vision from God to found a life-giving church in South Tampa that would profoundly transform the community. With a reported 87 percent of community members not attending church at all, they saw that there was an enormous need for dynamic, life-affirming ministry.
When 348 worshipers turned up at the new church's first Sunday service for the public on September 15, 2013, the Burkes realized that they were on the right path. Since then, additional Radiant Church locations have opened in Saint Petersburg and Brandon, with a fourth to follow at 3205 N Boulevard in historic Tampa Heights on September 8.
That impressive trajectory stems from a deep commitment to identifying and responding to the needs of unchurched people throughout the area. Dedicated to affirming life and the glory of Creation in every possible way, Radiant Church "exists to move people from where they are to where God wants them to be."
At a time when many feel disconnected from their own neighbors, Radiant Church provides numerous ways to connect and become an integral part of a vibrant, thriving community. With polls conducted by Gallup and the Pew Research Center showing many Americans falling away from faith, Radiant Church helps members develop their own personal, life-giving relationships with Jesus Christ.
There are countless places of worship in the Tampa Bay area, but none have grown as rapidly as Radiant Church in recent years. Newcomers gain access to two carefully designed classes that help them learn all they need to know to become full-fledged members of the Radiant Church family.
These "Next Steps" sessions cover everything from the structure and founding vision of Radiant Church to the roles and responsibilities of the service-focused Dream Team. Special programs for children, young adults, and college students help the members of the next generation move on to their own God-given callings.
Where other churches in the region and nationwide are shrinking, Radiant Church is still growing explosively. Visitors report being struck by the strong feelings of community that pervade every service and gathering, with all being welcomed and made to feel at home.
