-- Skylark Labs, the company building foundation models for physical AI, today announced the appointment of former GoPro Chief Technology Officer Vince Nakayama as Chief Product Officer. Nakayama brings four decades of experience building and scaling hardware, software, and connected products at companies including Apple, Sony, Amazon Lab126, Microsoft, Lucid Motors, and GoPro. At Skylark Labs, he will lead the development and commercialization of the company's physical AI portfolio, beginning with defense humanoids.

Nakayama will oversee Skylark Lab’s complete product portfolio, from its CFAM foundation models and edge-compute platforms to autonomous systems including humanoids, drones, quadrupeds, and ground vehicles. He will lead the transition from engineering prototypes to manufactured, field-deployable products—one product discipline across the entire portfolio, from the model to the machine. He reports directly to founder and CEO Amarjot Singh.
Nakayama began his career at Silicon Graphics before directing QuickTime engineering at Apple. He ran software, UX, and content operations at Sony Network Entertainment, led product development and user experience at Amazon's Lab126, led engineering and product management for Microsoft's Surface division, built the software and electronics organization behind Lucid Motors' first vehicle program, and served as CTO of GoPro with responsibility across hardware, software, and cloud.
Along the way, he worked alongside future Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Ben Horowitz at Silicon Graphics, developed the original Fire TV working directly with Jeff Bezos at Lab126, and held leadership roles at Khosla Ventures-backed companies.
This addition to the executive team signals where Skylark Labs is headed. The company's Continual Field-Adaptive Models (CFAM) run on-device and keep learning after deployment—a humanoid running CFAM can adapt to new operating conditions after deployment, on the machine without waiting for centralized retraining.
Most physical AI systems remain substantially fixed after deployment and depend on centralized retraining or software updates when conditions change; Skylark Labs is building for a different operating model. Scaling that from working platforms to fielded systems is a productization challenge spanning systems engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, ruggedization, material science, certification, and operational validation—the discipline Nakayama has run at consumer and automotive scale.

Nakayama holds a degree from the University of California, Davis.
