When Dr. Xu established his company in November 2002, it was clear to him what he wanted to do: to seek a breakthrough in biotechnology and contribute to the biomedical sciences R&D ecosystem using extensively researched processes, one of the first in Asia.
Together with his team and business partners, Dr. Xu acquired the former Food Biotechnology Centre in Singapore, including its plant and laboratory facilities. Today, his company prides itself in several new technologies such as membrane technology, chromatography, microbial cultivation, and application to farming, healing, and whitening — basically the improvement of animal nutrition and human life.
APN is also known for its research-based developments, which ensure that everything it manufactures has been clinically proven to be safe and effective. Dr. Xu showed the patented cultivation process in APN, which starts from the inoculation of strong and active compounds from the fungal ingredient, to the replication of such compounds until their fingerprinting and testing through the special technology, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
The CEO also revealed that since its founding in 2002, APN has already spent more than $1 million in the development and perfection of the cultivation technology. This alone gives the company the edge in the industry, knowing that they have the sole patent of their technique.
“As far as we know, we are the only company outside of China that is capable of transferring the raw materials cultured into commercial products,” he said in an interview.
On the other hand, the company also collaborates with China and other nearby countries, providing them the technologies needed for production and cultivation of ingredients. Despite being fairly new company in a small region such as Singapore, the APN team remains optimistic about their place in the global competition. Though European countries like France and Switzerland are known to have impressive technologies, Dr. Xu believes that his patented cultivation technique has never been seen before, and is likely to grow into a scientific revolution not only in Asia, but in Western countries as well.
But Dr. Xu does not only think of sciences; his discoveries also led him to make remarkable contributions to the agricultural and business industries in Singapore. His researches and developments have made him one of the most popular figures in Asia, a proponent of unique and modern methods in fermentation of compounds. He is among the top personalities in Singapore’s list of emerging SMEs, and with the quality of his researches, valuable findings, and state-of-the-art equipment, there is no doubt that AP Nutripharm will soon be known worldwide, putting itself against major companies in biotechnology.
Moreover, Dr. Xu and his 10 years of research prove that their proposed projects and technologies have undergone rigorous tests, several trials, and various inputs from his team and from his network of scientists. The result works in two ways: The company gains a lot of attention from established institutions and helps position Singapore as a regional biotech research and development hub.
AP Nutripharm and its bio-reactor manufacturing facility, formerly known as the Food Biotechnology Centre of PBS Corporation, are located in Science Park, Singapore. Aside from this facility, APN houses analytical and microbiological laboratories.
