The renovation includes a strikingly long 17 1/2-foot kitchen island and a remarkable 23-foot-tall breakfast room, which forms the centerpiece of the rear extension. A new oak and steel catwalk bridges the towering space, complemented by a matching open riser stair. The rear wall of the extension features a Nanawall system, allowing it to open fully to a deck, seamlessly integrating oversized floor tiles from inside to out.
A distinctive feature of the project is the preservation of a giant oak tree. The tree was carefully integrated into the modern historic architecture by excavating around its roots, ensuring it remains a central visual element. The canopy of the tree overlooks a newly added roof deck, providing an elevated outdoor space.
The primary bathroom showcases a freestanding tub positioned beneath a slot skylight, which illuminates a wall covered in Fornace Brioni tiles from Cle Tiles. The design ensures a smooth transition from the tub to the open shower, which is designed without raised saddles to enhance accessibility.
The residential renovation includes a quadruplex that rises above a two-bedroom rental flat situated at ground level. To accommodate the vertical living arrangement, the design incorporates a new elevator and a laundry chute, addressing practical needs and improving convenience for the homeowners.
