-- Schilling Glass offers “Eucalyptus,” a handcrafted art glass lamp designed to portray the visual phenomenon while gazing at a full-moon through a eucalyptus tree. The piece draws from the way eucalyptus leaves catch and reflect silver moonlight, creating a shimmering array that glitters amongst the darker leaves and surrounding sky. The effect is both grounding and clarifying.
Created as a Unique lighting gift, “Eucalyptus” is positioned for collectors and design-minded buyers who value functional art that communicates mood through light, texture, and subtle color movement. The lamp is built around a nature-based visual narrative, with leaf forms intended to shift in presence depending on viewing angle and illumination.
“Unique art glass lamps are formed when I find the on button to my own creative process. Two essential components have to be there: concentration and technique. Without concentration, I’m nowhere. My technique develops along multiple pathways. With powder coatings, I’m having to develop and perfect new tools and find new materials. That means lots of experiments. And a scrap pile. While focusing on technique, I’m able to search for those subtle images that emerge through the haze of creativity. Concentration and technique are mutually supportive,” Terry Schilling.
This lamp’s imagery portrays eucalyptus leaves and the reflections form their eucalypti oil content. This oil is commonly used for medicinal purposes, including mental clarity. The design aims to reflect a simple way to connect with that feeling: gazing upward through eucalyptus branches toward a full moon, where scattered leaves appear to shimmer like silver ornaments.
On the front-facing side of the lamp, the leaves are rendered in either Emperor’s Gold with a translucent red heart, or lavender with a Silver central vein. From the reverse side, the same leaves appear in bold red and silver tones. From this orientation, the composition takes on a secondary interpretation: that of fish swirling through a moonlit pond.
“Eucalyptus was created to hold two experiences at once, stillness and motion,” the spokesperson added. “The leaf shapes were chosen for their ability to transform under moonlight, so the viewer sees something different depending on where they stand.”
Schilling Glass notes that the “Eucalyptus” lamp reflects the studio’s continued emphasis on technique-driven experimentation, including powder coatings, custom-made tools, and ongoing material testing. Each stage of development supports a process where concentration and craftsmanship work together to bring forward subtle images through glass.
As a functional art object and Unique lighting gift, “Eucalyptus” is intended for residential interiors where lighting serves as both illumination and atmosphere.
