-- A technical achievement evaluation meeting for the 100,000-ton industrialization and integrated demonstration project of Sanzhuliang’s full-life-cycle zero-waste naked oat processing technology was recently held at the China Technology Exchange.
An expert panel led by Sun Baoguo, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, conducted a systematic review of the full-life-cycle zero-waste processing technology system developed by Sanzhuliang Group after years of research. After comprehensive assessment, the panel confirmed that the project has made major breakthroughs in oat deep processing, high-value utilization of by-products and 100,000-ton industrial integrated demonstration, with overall technology reaching an internationally leading level.

Naked oat is an important characteristic grain crop in China, rich in dietary fiber, beta-glucan, plant protein and unsaturated fatty acids, boasting high development value. The naked oat processing industry has long been plagued by technical difficulties including tough husks, fragile endosperm, and difficulty in complete retention of germ and aleurone layer. Traditional processing leads to high grain breakage rate, severe nutrient loss and insufficient by-product utilization, hindering the high-quality development of the naked oat industry.
To tackle these industry bottlenecks, Sanzhuliang Group has persisted in technological research and developed a full-life-cycle technical system covering raw material processing, functional component extraction, high-value by-product utilization and large-scale industrial demonstration.
The group’s self-developed physical constant-temperature fine milling technology enables precise husk peeling at low temperature, greatly improving processing accuracy and germ retention rate while maintaining the stability of core nutrients such as beta-glucan.
Based on refined naked oat grain processing, Sanzhuliang has built a full-path comprehensive utilization system for by-products. Oat bran is processed via supercritical carbon dioxide extraction to produce oat oil rich in unsaturated fatty acids. Defatted bran powder is processed through targeted enzymatic hydrolysis with compound bioenzymes to generate small-molecule oat bioactive peptides. Residual materials are further processed into high-value products including dietary fiber and functional protein.
A single naked oat can be fully developed into staple food products, functional lipids, bioactive peptides, dietary fiber and functional protein, realizing full-resource utilization with zero waste from raw materials to end products.
The expert panel noted that the project has broken through core technical bottlenecks in nutrient retention, deep processing, by-product recycling and industrial integration. It has achieved full-life-cycle zero-waste processing for naked oats and set a benchmark for upgrading quality and efficiency of the grain industry as well as raising the added value of agricultural products.
With the upgrading of residents’ dietary structure and growing demand for prevention and management of chronic metabolic diseases, the nutritional and health value of naked oats has gained increasing attention. Sanzhuliang Group has long cooperated with research teams from Peking University Health Science Center to study the dietary intervention effect of naked oats on people with type 2 diabetes. Relevant studies show that moderate intake of naked oats helps regulate blood glucose and blood lipids, providing solid scientific support for transforming naked oats from a traditional grain to a functional staple food.
Building on the phased achievements of its zero-waste processing technology, Sanzhuliang Group is expanding its industrial innovation layout into life sciences, biomanufacturing and precision nutrition.
On April 18 this year, during the High-Quality Health Industry Development Forum, Sanzhuliang Group Co., Ltd. signed an in-depth strategic cooperation agreement with Xi’an Tianmei Biotech Co., Ltd. to jointly establish the BON Natural Ingredients and Biomanufacturing Joint Laboratory.
The laboratory will carry out joint research on natural active ingredients, biocatalysis, synthetic biology and precision nutrition evaluation, promoting integrated application of oat deep processing technology and cutting-edge biomanufacturing technology.
It will focus on building three major technology platforms: synthetic biology cell factories, AI-assisted directed enzyme evolution and green catalysis, as well as multi-omics precision nutrition evaluation. The platforms will support the research and development of active ingredients such as oat peptides and functional polysaccharides, stabilize and scale up the production of functional factors, and provide scientific support for the development of precision nutrition products.
Sanzhuliang owns profound technological advantages in the whole industrial chain of oats, international patent portfolio, targeted enzymatic hydrolysis of oat protein and beta-glucan activity retention. Tianmei Biotech has rich experience in plant extracts, biocatalysis, synthetic biology, industrial production and global market channels. The complementary partnership will form a complete innovation chain covering basic research, pilot scale-up, standard formulation and industrial implementation.
Industry insiders commented that the significance of Sanzhuliang’s project lies not only in solving technical difficulties in naked oat processing, but also in creating an innovative model for traditional agricultural products to reconstruct value through technological advancement.
From specialty grain to functional staple food, from by-product recycling to biomanufacturing upgrading, and from industrial demonstration to aligning with international standards, Sanzhuliang is driving the naked oat industry toward high added value, green development and nutrition-oriented high-quality growth.
