-- RNTR, an online rental marketplace, lets people rent a wide range of items near them, from tools and trailers to party supplies and medical equipment, through a single platform that now spans more than 38,000 listings in 40 states.

The marketplace sorts listings into categories that cover tools, equipment, trailers, party and event supplies, recreation gear, lawn and garden machines, electronics, and medical and mobility equipment. The same site that has a tile saw for a home project also has tents and chairs for a wedding, a kayak for a lake weekend, or a wheelchair for a visiting relative.
Renters search for items available near them, compare options, reserve dates, and pay online, with payments processed through Stripe. The platform connects two kinds of owners in one place: established rental businesses and individuals who list items they already own. Owners set their own prices, approve or decline requests, and receive payment once an item is returned.
A company spokesperson described the goal in plain terms: “Our mission is simple: make renting as easy as ordering a ride.” Much of the rental trade still runs by phone and in person. RNTR moves search, booking, and payment online and onto a mobile app, letting people see what is available, when, and at what price before they leave home. Built-in reviews and in-app messaging are meant to make those exchanges more accountable than an informal handoff.
To support rentals between people who have not met, the platform offers verified accounts, ratings and reviews, detailed listings, and optional damage waivers. RNTR identifies itself as a member of the American Rental Association.
For items used only occasionally, renting can cost less than buying. A carpet cleaner needed once a year or a tool required for a single job rarely justifies the purchase price, the storage, and the upkeep. As the marketplace grows across the country since its November 2024 launch, the company is positioning renting as a routine alternative to ownership for the next one-off project or event, with the item often a short drive away.
