-- Refi Calculator today announced the launch of reficalculator.com, a free refinance calculator that helps U.S. homeowners estimate their new monthly payment, monthly savings, lifetime interest savings, estimated closing costs and break-even point before they talk to a lender. Running the numbers takes about 60 seconds and requires no credit check.
With the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaging 7.24% for the week of October 29, 2026, according to Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey, many homeowners are asking the same question: does refinancing actually make sense for me? Refi Calculator is built to answer that with the homeowner's own numbers rather than a sales pitch.
"Most people only hear about the new rate. The number that matters is how long it takes for your monthly savings to pay back your closing costs," said Chad Buchanan, founder of Refi Calculator. "We show the payment, the savings and the break-even point side by side, so homeowners can decide whether a refinance is worth it before they ever fill out a loan application."
What a refinance can look like, by the numbers
As an illustrative example, a homeowner with a $300,000 balance on a 30-year loan at 7.75% pays about $2,149 a month in principal and interest. Refinancing that balance into a new 30-year loan at 7.24% lowers the payment to about $2,044, a difference of roughly $105 a month. Using Refi Calculator's default closing-cost estimate of 2% of the loan, or about $6,000, the break-even point would be about 57 months. Actual rates, costs and savings depend on credit, property, loan amount, occupancy and other factors.
How Refi Calculator works
Choose a goal. Homeowners pick what they want: lower the monthly payment, lower the rate, take cash out or consolidate debt.
Enter loan details. The calculator asks for the current balance, current rate, new rate, new term (15, 20 or 30 years) and, optionally, years left on the current loan.
See estimated results. The calculator shows an estimated new payment and closing costs. Homeowners who want exact savings figures and real offers can check their refinance options in about 60 seconds.
Calculators for several refinance options
In addition to the main refinance calculator, the site includes:
A cash-out refinance calculator for homeowners who want to tap home equity
A VA IRRRL calculator for veterans with VA loans
An FHA streamline calculator for homeowners with FHA loans
Refinance calculators for all 50 states, which factor in local property tax and home value data
Rates shown on the site are weekly averages from Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey. Refi Calculator publishes how its estimates are calculated on its methodology page.
Refi Calculator is not a lender, broker or financial advisor, and its estimates are not loan offers or commitments to lend. Homeowners who ask to see real offers can choose to have their information shared with Mortgage Leads Co and participating licensed lenders, who may contact them about mortgage options.
Homeowners can run their numbers for free at reficalculator.com.
