Power Mic Voice Overs marks 19 years in business as founder Cheeko Adams reflects on a career spanning radio, commercial production, and professional voice work in Tampa and beyond.

-- Power Mic Voice Overs is marking 19 years in business under founder and CEO Cheeko Adams, recognizing nearly two decades of voice production and commercial audio work shaped by Adams’ longer career in radio and broadcasting.

Founded in 2007, Power Mic Voice Overs grew out of Adams’ experience in radio and production, a career that began in 1985 in the Tampa Bay area. His professional background includes work as a morning show personality, radio producer, and creative production assistant before establishing his own voice-over operation. Those early broadcasting roles gave him experience with live programming, commercial messaging, and the demands of communicating with a broad listening audience.

“I learned early in radio that a voice is part of the architecture of a message,” Adams says. “The words matter, but so do the pace, tone, emphasis, and understanding of who is listening. After years behind the microphone and inside production rooms, I wanted to bring that complete perspective into the work I was doing independently.”

Over the past 19 years, Power Mic Voice Overs has worked on voice and production projects across radio, television, concerts, entertainment, and digital media. The company has also produced radio and television commercials and audiovisual advertising intended for websites and other digital platforms. Its work has developed alongside changes in the media industry, as commercial audio has expanded beyond traditional broadcast outlets into online video, social media, and other digital formats.

For Adams, those changes have reinforced the importance of understanding the message before approaching the performance.

“Technology has changed how people receive a message, but it has not removed the need for judgment,” Adams says. “You still have to understand what the words mean, why they are being spoken and what the audience needs to take away from them. That responsibility remains the same whether the finished piece is heard on a radio station, in a theater or through a digital platform.”

Adams’ professional history also extends beyond broadcasting. Born and raised in Miami, he served eight years in the Army and received an honorable discharge in 1984 while stationed in Tampa. His subsequent career brought him back into radio and eventually into independent voice production in the Tampa Bay region.

For him, the 19th anniversary is an opportunity to consider the value of longevity in a field where technology, distribution methods, and audience habits have continued to evolve.

“Longevity gives you perspective,” Adams says. “You begin to understand that every project is part of a larger professional record. The goal is to keep learning, keep listening, and remain accountable for the work that carries your name.”

The anniversary also marks a continuation of Adams’ involvement in broadcasting that now spans more than four decades. From his first radio work in 1985 to his current role leading Power Mic Voice Overs, his career has remained centered on communication through sound.

As Power Mic Voice Overs enters its 20th year, Adams views the company’s history as a reflection of the relationships, experience, and changing media environment that have shaped his work.

“Nineteen years is meaningful because it represents time, but it also represents trust,” he says. “You have to earn the opportunity to continue doing this work. Every year adds another layer of responsibility, and that is what I take from this anniversary.”
