Payless For College founder Reecy Aresty announces plans to release an updated second edition of How to Pay for College Without Going Broke in November, 2026. The book addresses college admissions and financial aid for students and parents. The exact release date has not yet been finalized.

The planned release builds on Aresty’s work with families preparing for college, from organizing applications to reviewing & possibly appealing financial aid offers. His existing book combines these subjects in a guide covering the admissions process and the financial arrangements associated with attending college.

“I developed the Ambiguous Non-Custodial Parent Strategy to help students whose parents are separated or divorced explore whether the less affluent parent can qualify as the custodial parent under the applicable rules,” he says.

Aresty’s approach brings student preparation and family financial planning into the same discussion. His established materials address the work involved long before an application is submitted. By having a dynamite resume, the decisions that follow an acceptance, and the funding arrangements families consider before enrollment can be substantially increased.

The book’s admissions coverage begins with preparation throughout high school. Topics include developing a resume, participating in extracurricular activities, documenting community service, and preparing supporting materials. Aresty’s related educational reports also address recommendation letters and the coordination required among students and parents throughout the application process.

These resources distinguish between activities undertaken within school and community involvement outside it. They discuss how students organize their experiences as part of their preparation for college, alongside the academic and administrative requirements involved in applying.

The book’s financial aid section covers application forms, deadlines, and the review of aid offers. It also discusses appeals following job loss, reduced parental income, or changes in family circumstances, including how families can explain their situation to a college’s financial aid office.

The book also addresses college expenses beyond tuition, including travel allowances that may affect a student’s cost of attendance. This section discusses how families can raise questions about those expenses when requesting a review of financial aid.

A college funding timeline outlines the stages from applications and admissions decisions to aid offers, appeals, and enrollment arrangements. It also covers financial aid tasks that recur during college, extending the planning process beyond the first year.

Aresty has worked as a financial advisor and lecturer since 1977. His experience includes presenting seminars for parents, students, and school counselors on college admissions and financing.

Through Payless For College, he also provides reports on application preparation, recommendation letters, and funding schedules. These resources accompany his advisory work with college-bound students and their families.

The second edition of How to Pay for College Without Going Broke is planned for release in November, 2026. The exact release date has not yet been finalized.
