The Foundation for Indigent Guardianship and the Florida Office of Public and Professional Guardians presented Pankauski Hauser PLLC partner and appellate specialist Robert J. Hauser with a plaque and award for his successful pro bono work on a 2015 guardianship appeal of statewide significance. —
The award was presented at the organization’s annual reception on July 22, 2016 at the Hyatt Pier 66 resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The decision, entitled Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Inc., vs. The Guardianship of Jennifer Jaffe (issued Nov. 4, 2015) declared that trial judges may not appoint public guardians to serve in cases without their consent.
Hauser successfully argued in the Fourth District Court of Appeal that public guardians around the State of Florida have limited resources and a fixed limit on the number of cases they may take. They, therefore, need the ability to give priority to the most needy and endangered wards.
Robert J. Hauser is a partner at Pankauski Hauser PLLC in West Palm Beach, Florida. He has been practicing in West Palm Beach since 1997 and has been board certified by the Florida Bar in appellate practice since 2009.
