Panama Government Announces Construction Contract For Panama Canal's 4th Bridge

The contract for the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal has been signed with BIM - GIS process implicit in the design and construction, reports abctakeoff.com.

The Public Works Minister of Panama, in collaboration with the Panama 4th Bridge Consortium, signed on November 9, 2018 the contract for the design and construction of the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal, a project of 1,420 million dollars. The BIM - GIS interoperability contained in the bidding documents will be of special attention to the contractor. ABC Takeoff was in charge of the section of the BIM - GIS tender documents generated for Ty - Lin Intl. for this relevant project.

In the BIM - GIS section, which, in addition to the BIM adoption in the pre - construction models, aimed to check the quality of the design versus the specifications requirements; reference is made to the MVD (Model View Definition) for construction, the information that would be used in the construction phase, and aimed at the identification of space-time conflicts and logistic coordination, and also the management of assets and OPEX protocols, all through PAS 1192 (NBS Standard) and its requirements, prior inclusion in the contractor's GIS platform.

"The proposed process is not binding to any platform or authoring modeling software, we consider paying special attention to the BS_8536_2_2016, a NBS Standard, aimed at the management of linear infrastructure assets " said Arch. Luis Vargas, president of ABC Takeoff.

For more information regarding CAPEX, the updated reference is PAS_1192_2_2013 ideally associated with the management of assets in infrastructure projects. This is a great opportunity to carry out an effective project control in the execution phase, through BIM processes in Panama and the region, beyond the planning stages so far addressed.
