Owed Launches Platform to Help Americans Claim Their Share of Unclaimed Settlement Money

Most people never file for the class-action payouts they already qualify for. Owed's new membership platform finds a member's likely claims, links them to the official claim forms, and tracks every deadline — for one flat fee, never a percentage of the payout.

-- August 29, 2026 — Owed, a consumer claims platform, today announced its public launch. The company helps everyday consumers find the class-action settlements and refund programs they are eligible for, file through the official settlement administrator's form, and track their claims through to payment.

Every year, courts approve consumer settlements covering everyday issues — data breaches, privacy violations, hidden fees, mislabeled products, and defective goods. Most of the money never reaches the people it was set aside for. A Federal Trade Commission staff report analyzing dozens of consumer settlement campaigns found a median claims rate of just 9 percent, with a weighted average of roughly 4 percent — meaning the overwhelming majority of eligible consumers never file at all.

"People assume this money isn't really for them, or that claiming it takes a lawyer and a stack of receipts," said Justin Lover, founder of Owed. "In most cases it takes a few minutes on the administrator's own form. Our job is to tell you which settlements you actually qualify for, get you to the right form, and make sure a deadline never slips past you."

How it works — Members answer a short series of questions about products and services they have used. Owed matches those answers against its database of open settlements and refund programs, shows the claims the member likely qualifies for, and links each one directly to the official claim form operated by the court-appointed settlement administrator. The platform then tracks status from filed to paid, sends reminders before claim windows close, and — for claims that require proof of purchase — can verify eligibility using receipts already sitting in the member's inbox, with permission.

Owed does not file on members' behalf, does not act as a law firm, and never takes a percentage of any payout. Membership costs $2 for the first week and $49 per year after that. Payouts go directly to the member.

Traction — The company reports that its platform currently tracks more than $700 million in open settlement funds across active consumer cases, and that members have claimed more than $37 million to date. Over one million people have used Owed to check what they may be owed.

Beyond settlements, Owed publishes free public tools, including a state-by-state directory for searching official unclaimed-property databases. State treasurers collectively hold tens of billions of dollars in unclaimed property, according to the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators — money returned only when the owner searches for it and files a claim.

"Settlements, refunds, unclaimed property — it's all the same problem," Justin Lover added. "The money exists, it has your name on it in some database, and the only thing standing between you and it is knowing where to look and filing before the window closes."
