Numero Uno Web Solutions (NumeroUnoWeb.com), a fast-growing — Internet marketing firm that caters to small- and mid-sized business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) companies, is weighing in on why online content needs to be mobile-friendly. The company is also examining why cross-channel marketing is the best way for brands to attract the most qualified online traffic.
“It’s no surprise that Canadian businesses are facing economic headwinds,” says Dave Wheeler, president and general manager of Numero Uno Web Solutions. “At the same time, there are some simple strategies they could be taking to increase both brand awareness and revenue.”
Wheeler explains that less than half of all Canadian small businesses have a dedicated web site and less than half of those businesses say they sell their products and services through their web sites. With approximately 83% of Canadians having access to the Internet, that represents a large untapped potential market. “Of those brands that do have a web site, most do not have mobile-friendly content. And if online content isn’t mobile-friendly, a business is losing additional revenue,” he adds. “In 2013, 21% of Canadian households reported using a cell phone exclusively, up from 13% in 2010. Exclusive cell phone use is more popular in households where all of the members are under 35 years of age.” (Source: “Facts & Figures,” Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association web site; http://cwta.ca/facts-figures/, last accessed September 9, 2014.)
Wheeler notes that small- and medium-sized businesses that want their SEO to capitalize on the increased usage of mobile devices need to implement a cross-channel online marketing campaign that attracts and engages targeted visitors across multiple platforms. In addition to personal computers, this includes tablets and smartphones.
“Mobile users interact with their screens differently than PC users do: mobile users touch, swipe, and zoom in and out. For businesses to connect with their qualified traffic, they need to understand the online experience from their perspective,” he observes. “Different mobile devices provide different experiences; as a result, brands need to ensure their mobile sites are easy to navigate and use across all devices and screen sizes.”
“Unfortunately, this isn’t happening. While two-thirds of businesses believe it’s important to integrate marketing across all channels, only seven percent of businesses have cross-channel marketing plans in place,” Wheeler concludes. “To connect with Canada’s mobile consumers, businesses need to hire an online marketing company with a proven track record of developing a successful cross-channel marketing plan.” (Source: Essany, M., “Cross-Channel Marketing: Only for the Committed Ten Percent?” MobileMarketingWatch.com, September 8, 2014; www.mobilemarketingwatch.com/cross-channel-marketing-only-for-the-committed-ten-percent-44651/.)
