NLC, Inc has updated their online test preparation modules and study materials that reflect the changes to the current PS exam.

-- Students planning to get their Professional Land Surveyor license this year will notice changes to the Principles & Practice of Land Survey (PS) exam. Administered by the National Council of Examiners of Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), the PS is one of three exams that most Land Surveyors must take to obtain their PLS. Nettleman Land Consultants (NLC, Inc.) has been helping students prepare for the PS exam for almost a decade by offering the most up-to-date preparation courses and resources available, to help students pass on their first try.

According to Dr. C.A. “Tony” Nettleman, President and CEO of NLC, Inc., "Every eight to ten years, the PS exam is reviewed and revised to meet the current industry needs". He further explained that "The PS was due for revision between 2019-2021. However, NCEES decided to issue the revised exam early in January 2019 to reflect the industry’s technological advances including the use of unmanned aerial systems and laser scanning".

Land surveying is a booming industry that has seen steady growth in the past 10 years. With over eight billion dollars in revenue generated annually, the need for professionally licensed land surveyors is expected to continue to be in demand.

The revised PS exam administered by NCEES is more relevant to today’s industry. The NCEES exam uses advanced technology to create a more unique and personalized test for each student. These improvements help aspiring land surveyors successfully obtain their professional survey license.

The revised seven-hour, 100 question exam more clearly explains the specific expectations in each of the five subject categories. Subcategories have been reduced in Legal Principles and Professional Survey Practices and sub-subcategories have been added to fully explain the expectations of each subcategory. The Business/Professional Practices category has changed very little, but the third category, Standards and Specifications has been drastically reduced.

The fifth category, Areas of Practice, previously known as Types of Surveys, is the only one to be expanded on the exam. More questions, subcategories, and sub-subcategories have been added to reflect the growing market changes. While the core knowledge in this section has not changed, consulting surveys has now been added to reflect a very lucrative and growing market in the land surveying industry.

In keeping with the revisions, NLC, Inc. has developed preparation modules and study materials that reflect the changes to the current PS exam. Their online learning materials are developed to help students successfully pass the exam on the first try.
