-- Nimisha Nailor, founder of the British nutrition brand Kultra, has won a 2026 Entrepreneur Award for building a protein supplement business around goat whey, a less common alternative to the cow's milk whey used in conventional protein powders. Kultra's powder contains three ingredients: goat whey concentrate, natural vanilla, and stevia leaf. The company ships to customers in Britain, Ireland, Canada and the United States.

Nailor started the business after what the company describes as years of searching without success for a goat whey protein she could use daily, having dealt with chronic inflammation and polycystic ovary syndrome. Kultra trades as Kultra Wellness Ltd and is registered in England and Wales.

The Business

Conventional whey protein powders are made from cow's milk whey, a byproduct of industrial cheesemaking. Cattle account for 81% of world milk production and goats for 2%, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, leaving producers who work with goat whey a fraction of the supply available to the rest of the category.

Kultra says it sources its whey from grass-fed goats on small farms in the Netherlands, and markets the powder as naturally A2, a reference to the form of beta-casein protein found in goat milk. Each serving provides 26 grams of protein. The company says every batch is tested for heavy metals and that its manufacturing is NSF GMP registered.

The judges pointed to the decision to build on a narrower and more difficult supply chain rather than reformulate an existing one.

Market Context

The global protein supplements market is estimated at $31.9 billion in 2026, up from $29.8 billion in 2025, and is projected to reach $63.2 billion by 2033, a compound annual growth rate of 10.3%, according to Grand View Research. Animal-based sources, including whey, accounted for 59.9% of the market in 2025, and the firm identifies female consumers as a growing segment.

The judges viewed Kultra as aimed at a specific buyer within that growth: the consumer who wants a conventional protein powder but has found that conventional products do not suit them.

The Judges' Assessment

"The panel looked for a founder who had identified a real gap and accepted the cost of filling it properly," Alexandra Dalton said. "This entry did not take the conventional ingredient and market it harder. It took the difficult one and kept the formulation to three ingredients. That is a commercial decision with consequences, and she made it deliberately."
