“When COVID hit, I, unlike most 18-year-olds decided to make good use of my time,” explained Austin, who has since turned 19. “Instead of watching Tiger King on Netflix, I decided to take this opportunity where everyone had time on their hands to interview athletes, primarily NBA players. One thing led to another, and I have gotten NBA players asking me for interviews, and podcasts asking to interview me.”
A lifelong sports lover, Austin became a highly ranked USTA tennis player in high school. She has parlayed her devotion to sports into a successful IG-TV program. It’s a natural fit for her, as she describes herself as “very social and able to connect with others, which is another reason why I love interviewing.” She added, “I would say my personality is very welcoming and enables people to open up and speak freely.”
The commitment and discipline she learned as a young tennis champion enabled Austin to focus on building an IG-TV show. This is a labor-intensive process that’s out of reach for most people in their late teens. However, drawing on inspiration from Michael Jordan, who famously said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” Austin felt it would be worth the risk involved. “I would rather be rejected, than have not tried at all. Additionally, persistence is key, and you should never give up on your dreams,” she said. “Fall down seven times, stand up eight,” she also suggested.
