-- Murray Kessler today announced the launch of his official website at murraykessler.com. The site provides details on his more than 35 years of Fortune 500 leadership experience across the consumer goods, tobacco, and healthcare industries.
Kessler began his career in consumer packaged goods roles at Campbell Soup Company, The Clorox Company, and Vlasic Foods International. These positions established his experience in brand building and management. In April 2000, he joined UST Inc. as President of the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company. He later served as President and CEO of UST. Following Altria’s acquisition of the business in 2009, he became Vice Chair of Altria.
In September 2010, Kessler was appointed President, CEO, and Chairman of Lorillard, Inc. At the time, the company faced regulatory and public health challenges related to menthol cigarettes, which accounted for 90 percent of its revenues. He led the company through this period while diversifying its product portfolio. Lorillard completed its merger with Reynolds American in 2015. “What I learned at Lorillard is that you can't outrun the market,” Kessler said. “What you can do is read it clearly and move before it moves you.”
In October 2018, Kessler became President and CEO of Perrigo Company plc, a global provider of over-the-counter consumer self-care products. Over nearly five years, he completed 14 merger and acquisition transactions, repositioned the company’s global portfolio, and addressed legal and financial issues. He retired in July 2023.
From 2017 to 2021, Kessler served as the 14th President of the United States Equestrian Federation. During his tenure, membership grew from 82,000 to more than 200,000. He implemented Safe Sport compliance programs and supported the U.S. para-equestrian team’s rise to the top ranking in the world. His daughter, Reed Kessler, represented the United States in show jumping at the 2012 London Olympics.
