McKinney established the firm after 13 years in the global footwear industry, where he held leadership positions involving product development and manufacturing, followed by experience running his own business. He subsequently brought that background to Seoul, establishing an executive search practice in 2001. The firm’s work expanded in the years that followed to include human resources and management consulting, executive coaching, and talent solutions for organizations employing people in Korea. These developments accompanied the broader responsibilities involved in helping international businesses identify leaders and manage their operations across different markets.
McKinney Consulting’s experience during the 2008 global financial crisis also informed McKinney’s thinking about organizational preparedness. By that period, the business had developed several areas of activity, including executive search, coaching, payroll-related services, and leadership consulting. As hiring conditions changed, these different activities provided additional sources of work. McKinney has since drawn on that experience in developing the Proactive Agility framework, which examines how leaders can recognize emerging signals, reassess assumptions, and make decisions before circumstances demand an immediate response.
Reflecting on the milestone, McKinney notes that his perspective on leadership has developed through years of working with organizations facing changing business conditions. “The essential question is whether a leader is prepared for the responsibilities and circumstances ahead. Leaders and organizations need to be proactively agile,” McKinney says.
To codify these decades of operational insights in honor of the firm’s silver anniversary, McKinney Consulting released Global Mindset: A Guide for Cross-Cultural Leadership, co-authored by the founder and the firm’s director, Bryan McKinney. The publication serves as an institutional resource that examines how cultural assumptions influence communication, management, and decision-making in international business based on the firm's real-world advisory history.
Alongside the firm’s anniversary, its leadership structure reflects a family business that has developed across generations. Bryan McKinney has held leadership responsibilities since 2017 and works across executive search, leadership consulting, coaching, and cross-cultural leadership development. His contribution to Global Mindset reflects his interest in preparing leaders to work across cultural and generational differences, placing the firm’s extensive experience alongside the perspective of a younger generation of business leadership.
