According to the U.S. Census Bureau, retail e-commerce sales reached an estimated $340.2 billion in the second quarter of 2026, adjusted for seasonal variation. That represented a 12.2% increase from the same quarter in 2025, with e-commerce accounting for 17.1% of total U.S. retail sales.
For smaller online businesses, expanding digital commerce can also increase the need for product imagery across online stores and social channels.

Markan advises users to review generated product details, including colors, shapes, logos and packaging, before using an image publicly.
Social media provides another context for this visual demand. Pew Research Center reported in 2025 that 50% of U.S. adults use Instagram and 37% use TikTok, while YouTube and Facebook remain the most widely used platforms at 84% and 71%, respectively.
“A seller now needs the same product in a square post, a vertical post and a story, often in the same week,” Kerimoğlu said.
