Lotus Laser Systems Releases 3D Laser Engraving Technology as Standard

Share this news:

Lotus Laser Systems, a U.K. laser equipment manufacturer, has now standardised 3D laser engraving across its Meta product line. This makes its 3-axis beam delivery system available to all businesses, allowing companies to mark non-flat products quickly, enhancing production in various industries and commercial environments.

Lotus Laser Systems, a leading U.K. manufacturer of laser marking and engraving machines, announced it is releasing its advanced 3D laser engraving technology as a standard feature across the majority of its product line. This move makes the company’s advanced 3-axis beam delivery system accessible to businesses going forward.

"By standardising our 3D laser engraving technology, we're empowering our customers to achieve a new level of quality and capability," explains Dean Carpenter, managing director of Lotus Laser Systems. "This technology overcomes longstanding limitations in the industry and opens up exciting new possibilities for manufacturers, designers, and artisans. We don’t think this technology should come at an extra cost."

The 3-axis beam delivery system at the core of Lotus Laser Systems' 3D engraving technology is a major advancement over traditional rotary device methods. The system can maintain precise focus while engraving on curved, angled, and irregular surfaces. This capability is not possible with conventional 2-axis setups because the focal point isn’t dynamically adjusted as it contacts an object's surface, resulting in damage or little result. Its key features include enhanced precision and detail on complex shapes and surfaces, enabling users to achieve intricate designs on even the most challenging substrates.

The 3D laser engraving technology also delivers faster processing times, streamlining production workflows by eliminating the need for rotary devices in many applications. It maintains uniform depth and quality even on non-flat surfaces, ensuring a superior finish on every piece. Finally, the versatility of 3D laser engraving can work on a wide range of materials, including glass, metal, and plastics, making it suitable for diverse industries and applications.

The technology works by mapping 2D artwork onto a 3D model of the object being engraved. As the laser moves across the surface, it continuously adjusts to maintain optimal focus, resulting in crisp, high-quality engraving even on challenging curved or uneven surfaces.

"This 3D capability is a game-changer for industries like automotive, aerospace, medical devices, and luxury goods manufacturing," Carpenter notes. "It allows for incredibly precise marking and personalization on complex parts and products, enhancing traceability, brand identity, and overall value."

For applications that do require rotary motion, Lotus Laser Systems has developed an integrated solution that combines the 3-axis beam delivery with a rotary device. This pairing provides maximum flexibility and coverage for engraving cylindrical objects or other challenging geometries.

Lotus Laser Systems' 3D laser engraving technology is available immediately on new machine orders. Existing customers may be eligible for upgrades to their current systems. Interested parties should contact the company’s representative for details.
