-- Los Angeles baking supply store BakersBodega has announced the opening of a new franchise location in Baldwin Park, California on Feb. 29. The 5,000 square foot store is located at 4299 Maine Avenue in a shopping mall, which includes ample room for parking.
New franchise owner Emmanuel Rodriguez says the company chose the location because it provides access to bakeries, doughnut shops and home bakers in the north east section of Los Angeles and it’s also easily accessible from major freeways. Rodriguez added that the original BakersBodega location in Pico Rivera, California has always seen a strong presence of customers coming from the Baldwin Park area, prompting the company to look for expansion opportunities in that neighborhood.
“As the business grew, we took notice that our customers kept coming from farther and farther away,” Rodriguez said. “Our customers were continually requesting that we open locations closer to them so we started thinking about the best way to do that and franchising seemed the most viable option. We’re happy to be able to bring the BakersBodega brand to the people of Baldwin Park and the surrounding area. It’s something we’ve been working on for a long time and to see it finally come to fruition is wonderful.”
Rodriguez plans to act as general manager on an interim basis while the store manager for the BakersBodega original corporate store in Pico Rivera, Bill Puig, hires and trains full-time management for the new franchise site.
As far as employees go, the company has hired a crew of eight to start with who all have bakery experience. Making sure they all had bakery experience was important to Rodriguez, as he wanted to ensure the team has the same knowledge as BakersBodegas’ customer base, which is largely made up of professional bakers.
Future Franchising Plans
Company president Carlos Lopez says the Baldwin Park franchise is just the beginning for the baking supply store’s expansion. With demand for baking supplies steadily increasing in California, the company hopes to open another three locations in the state.
“This year is going to be a great year for BakersBodega, with plans to open four locations, each with a different franchisee,” Lopez said. “In addition to Baldwin Park, cities on the radar are Santa Ana, Anaheim and Escondido. We also have plans on adding to our line of private label items. We’re pleased that expansion is being driven by demand for BakersBodega’s products and services, as this makes the whole process more organic. People want BakersBodega in their neighborhoods so they don’t have to drive so much to get to it and we’re happy to give them what they want.”
