-- Light Tree Technology has announced that its Delhi NCR manufacturing facility is now ISO 13485 and MDSAP certified and officially recognised as a medical manufacturing facility in India, a regulatory milestone that opens doors to international clients in tightly regulated medical device markets.
When Dennis Giezeman boarded his one-way flight from the Netherlands to India two years ago, he was not just relocating. He was betting that Light Tree Technology's future depended on a manufacturing footprint that stretched well beyond its established base in China.
That bet is paying off.
A Strategic Move Years in the Making
LTT first committed to expanding into India in 2020, identifying Delhi NCR as the location for a second manufacturing facility. The decision was driven by a clear read of where the industry was heading: clients in medical devices and consumer technology were increasingly looking for either alternative manufacturing geographies or genuine diversification across multiple countries.
For years, Giezeman had been shuttling between the Netherlands and India, laying the groundwork. Two years ago, he made the move permanent.
"We knew we needed someone on the ground full-time to do this properly," Giezeman said. "You can't build a factory from a hotel room."
Today, the Indian facility is ISO 13485 and MDSAP certified and officially recognised as a medical manufacturing facility in India, a regulatory milestone that opens doors to international clients in tightly regulated medical device markets.
A Team-First Story
Ask Giezeman what made the difference, and he does not talk about machines or square footage. He talks about people.
"I could never have done this alone," he said. "From day one, the team in our Indian facility has been the engine of everything we have achieved. The certifications, the client wins, the ramp-up — none of it happens without them. They believed in the vision before there were even walls on the building."
That early team has since scaled significantly. Over the past year alone, LTT has welcomed more than 30 new clients to the India operation, with a deep pipeline of new projects coming online.
Why India and Why Now
The advantages of manufacturing in India have become harder for global brands to ignore. Giezeman points to several factors: a widely English-speaking workforce, which dramatically simplifies technical documentation, regulatory compliance, and day-to-day client communication; strong engineering and technical talent, particularly around the National Capital Region surrounding Delhi NCR; government incentives under initiatives like Make in India, which have made high-specification manufacturing more viable than ever; geopolitical diversification, an increasingly common requirement from clients managing supply chain risk and looking beyond a single-country dependency; favourable time zone overlap with Europe, making real-time collaboration with LTT's Dutch headquarters and European clients far easier than from East Asia; and a fast-growing domestic market for medical devices, giving global manufacturers a foothold in one of the most important healthcare growth stories of the next decade.
A Cultural Learning Curve and an Unexpected Upside
Giezeman is candid that the early days were not easy.
"In the beginning, I really had to work to understand the culture. The way business gets done, how relationships are built, how decisions get made — it is different from Europe. But I genuinely love it now," he said.
That appreciation has spilled over into life outside the factory. Giezeman recently travelled to Nepal for the wedding of one of LTT's clients, and has become a regular at his own employees' Indian weddings, multi-day events he describes as completely unforgettable.
"Once your team invites you to their wedding, you understand something about this country that you cannot learn in a meeting room. The team in the factory feels like a family and that makes us strong," he said.
Two Factories, One Playbook
The India operation does not replace LTT's China facility. It complements it. The existing Chinese operation has been instrumental in accelerating the India ramp-up. LTT has deliberately deployed the same machines in India that it uses in China for certain manufacturing processes, allowing the team to transfer process knowledge, tooling, and quality protocols across both sites with minimum friction.
The continuity has not gone unnoticed by suppliers.
"Last month, the owner of one of our machine suppliers flew over to visit the Indian facility," Giezeman said. "He could not stop smiling. Seeing his machine running on the other side of the world, in a brand new factory, producing for international clients — that meant a lot to him. And honestly, to us too."
What Is Next
Giezeman and his team are not slowing down. With a growing client base, new project starts, and an operation that is moving from build-out into growth, LTT's Indian chapter is entering its most exciting phase yet.
"We are going to keep improving and keep building on what we have established here," Giezeman said. "This year we welcomed over 30 new clients and many new projects. We are really excited to see all of this come alive."
For LTT, the Indian factory is no longer the new bet. It is the second engine of the business.
