Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort, has been honored with a 2024 Global Recognition Award. This award celebrates its outstanding achievement in reimagining a historic Hawaiian hideaway while setting new benchmarks for sustainable luxury hospitality and cultural stewardship.

The award recognizes Kona Village's exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability, architectural innovation, and authentic cultural experiences. As the first self-sustaining resort in the United States, Kona Village has redefined luxury hospitality by seamlessly blending cutting-edge sustainability practices with deep respect for Hawaiian heritage.

Kona Village's achievement is its groundbreaking approach to sustainability. The resort operates entirely on renewable energy, powered by an innovative 4 MW solar system. This commitment to clean energy has earned the property LEED v4 Gold Certification, a testament to its environmental leadership. The resort's sophisticated water management system, featuring a 1.2-million-gallon irrigation lagoon fed by brackish wells and recycled wastewater, further demonstrates its dedication to responsible resource management.

The architectural vision of Kona Village, led by Hawaii-raised architect Greg Warner and design firm NICOLEHOLLIS, masterfully bridges past and present. The resort's 150 guest hale (traditional Hawaiian structures) are thoughtfully arranged in village-like crescents, each featuring distinct design elements that reflect their geographic location. The North Village showcases a striking red and black palette inspired by lava fields, while the South Village employs blues and yellows, echoing the coastal environment. This thoughtful design approach creates a unique sense of place that resonates deeply with guests.

Cultural authenticity permeates every aspect of the 81-acre property. A Cultural Leadership Committee, comprising lineal descendants, kupuna, archaeologists, and navigators, guides the resort's development and operations. This unprecedented commitment to cultural stewardship is evident in preserving archaeological sites, including ancient petroglyph fields, and integrating native Hawaiian art throughout the property.

The culinary program at Kona Village exemplifies farm-to-table excellence, with most ingredients sourced from Hawaii Island's diverse microclimates. An on-site apiary and farm-grown traditional canoe plants connect guests to Hawaiian agricultural heritage, while partnerships with local producers like Kona Sea Salt and Hawaiian Vanilla Co. ensure authentic flavors and support the local economy.

"We're incredibly honored that Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, has received the 2024 Global Recognition Award. This prestigious accolade reflects the unwavering dedication of our team and our commitment to delivering unparalleled guest experiences rooted in the beauty and authenticity of our destination," said Hillary Francis, Director of Sales & Marketing at Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort.

The resort's commitment to sustainability extends beyond its operations to guest experiences. Visitors are invited to participate in cultural activities, environmental education programs, and conservation efforts, fostering a deeper connection to the land and its people. This holistic approach to hospitality enhances the guest experience and contributes to the long-term preservation of Hawaii's natural and cultural resources.

"At Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, we are inspired every day by our natural surroundings and the rich cultural heritage of Hawaii. Being included in this esteemed list is a testament to our efforts in seamlessly blending tradition and innovation to create a destination that resonates with travelers from around the globe," added Francis.

A 2024 Global Recognition Award acknowledges Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort's role in setting new standards for the luxury hospitality industry. By demonstrating that sustainability and cultural preservation can enhance rather than detract from the luxury experience, Kona Village is paving the way for a more responsible and authentic approach to high-end travel.

Alex Sterling of Global Recognition Awards commented on the selection: "Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort stands out as a beacon of innovation in the luxury hospitality sector.
