The book captures the raw and emotional experiences of Marie, a woman who battles addiction, familial trauma, and even human trafficking within her family. But her story doesn't end there—Marie rises from her darkest moments, earning a Summa Cum Laude degree after nearly three years of college, overcoming decades of trauma, and even receiving a gubernatorial pardon in 2018.
“Anyone can overcome their circumstances,” says Kimberly, reflecting on the inspiration behind the book. “If I can transform my life from chaos to success, then anyone can. It’s all about mindset, perseverance, and the will to create a better future.”
A Real-Life Story of Perseverance
The narrative of The Wise Marie is compelling because it’s not just fiction—it’s Kimberly’s lived experience. Marie’s story parallels Kimberly’s own life, one that includes years of drug abuse, physical and emotional abuse, and the loss of her children. Despite these challenges, Kimberly worked tirelessly to rebuild her life. She went from being a homeless drug addict to a real estate entrepreneur with ownership of over $8 million in property.
Kimberly’s story shows the power of determination in the face of adversity. “I didn’t have a road map for success, but I created my own,” she says. “The streets taught me lessons that helped me navigate the business world later on.”
Giving Back: A Commitment to Community
Beyond her literary achievements, Kimberly is also deeply committed to giving back. A portion of the proceeds from The Wise Marie will support the Aloha Jigsaw Foundation, a nonprofit she founded to aid orphaned children, or "Keikis," in Hawaii—especially those affected by the devastating fires on Maui in 2023.
“Part of my healing comes from helping others,” Kimberly explains. “The Aloha Jigsaw Foundation is my way of supporting the next generation and helping to heal the island of Maui. The proceeds from the book are just one way I can make a tangible difference.”
Her personal connection to Maui runs deep, with her ancestry rooted in the Hawaiian Islands. Kimberly believes that the strength of her heritage has played a pivotal role in shaping her resilience and her dedication to helping her community.
What’s Next: A Continuing Journey
The Wise Marie is only the beginning of Kimberly’s mission to inspire others through her story. The first volume is just a part of a larger, four-part series that will cover different stages of Marie’s journey, including harrowing experiences like an attempted murder by a family member.
Kimberly is currently working on Volume Two and plans to release it alongside future audiobooks that provide an even more intimate look at her transformation.
