-- Plattner Verderame, P.C. is pleased to announce that Julieta Hernandez has been selected as the recipient of the Plattner Verderame Civil Justice Scholarship for 2019. Ms. Hernandez is a student at UCLA School of Law, with an expected graduation date of 2022.
“We are all very pleased that Julieta Hernandez is this year’s recipient,” said firm founder Frank Verderame. “She is an extraordinary person, and we feel like she truly embodies the mission of our annual scholarship award. We are proud that we can help her pursue her dreams.”
About award winner Julieta Hernandez
Julieta Hernandez earned her B.A., magna cum laude, in Political Science and Chicano Latino Studies, as well as a Certificate in Legal Studies, from California State University, Long Beach. During her time there, she worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader at the CSULB Learning Assistance Center. She also served as Co-President of Chicano Latino Studies Student Association, and as Captain of the Moot Court Team. In 2016, she took 2nd place in the American Moot Court Association’s Upper Midwest Regional Competition, and 5th place in its National Brief Writing Competition.
Ms. Hernandez completed a judicial apprenticeship at the George Deukmejian Courthouse, and now works as a legal assistant at a California-based employment law firm.
About the annual Plattner Verderame Civil Justice Scholarship
The Plattner Verderame Civil Justice Scholarship awards $2500 to a student each year who has expressed an interest in pursuing social justice or civil justice. To be eligible, applicants must submit their proof of enrollment, a recommendation letter from a current or former teacher or professor, and an essay of up to 1000 words about the American civil justice and jury system. What they choose to explore about the system is left up to the applicants.
The Firm is currently accepting applications for 2020.
