Converging the World’s Talents, Creating a Better Future!

As an annual international science and technology event, the World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS), will be held in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province from November 15 to 17. Under the theme of “Youth Innovation: Fostering New Quality Productive Forces”, WYSS 2024 will include a plenary session, more than 10 parallel sessions and featured sessions, and the WYSS Carnival. The public registration channel for WYSS officially opened, offering "WYSS fans" the opportunity to attend in person. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain insights from influential young scientists across various fields, explore cutting-edge science and technology, and connect with global innovation resources at the event.

Building on the success of previous events, the content design and participant experience of this year's summit have been significantly upgraded, with the following highlights:

Scientific Depth: Deep Dive into Cutting-Edge Science

Over the past five years, WYSS has attracted over 30 Nobel laureates and Turing Award winners, including Michael Levitt, Hartmut Michel, and Konstantin Novoselov, as well as more than 400 academicians from China and abroad such as Zhong Nanshan, Shi Yigong, Fan Daiming, and Yan Ning, and over 5,600 young scientists, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists including Hu Hailan, Chen Lingling, and Lu Chaoyang.

WYSS 2024 places greater emphasis on its “scientific depth and academic nature”, fully reflecting its cutting-edge focus. Centered around the annual theme of "Youth Innovation: Fostering New Quality Productive Forces", the summit will feature keynote speeches on topics such as technological innovation and youth leadership, integration of artificial intelligence and future technologies, new energy revolution and sustainable development, and new frontiers of life sciences. From the perspectives of sci-technology frontiers and future trends, international sci-technology exchange and cooperation, technological innovation and commercialization of sci-tech achievements, and cultivation of young scientists and technologists, over 10 parallel and featured sessions will be held to share the latest scientific and technological advancements in quantum information technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning, brain and cognitive science, and new energy technology. A group of globally influential scientific leaders have confirmed their participation as keynote speakers, and a number of international science and technology organizations, national societies, prestigious journals, and young scientists have confirmed their cooperation with WYSS to co-organize relevant forum activities.

A notable highlight of this year's summit is the introduction of a call for papers and abstracts across multiple cutting-edge innovation fields, along with the launch of “WYSS Special Issues”. Authors of the papers submitted to the special issues will enjoy a fast-track review process, waived registration fees for the summit, and opportunities for presentations. Additionally, they will have the chance to participate in various exhibition and networking activities organized by the summit.

International Perspective: A Global Invitation

WYSS 2024 has taken a more global perspective, extending invitations to participants from all five continents, particularly those from scientifically advanced nations. Representatives from the International Science Council's three categories of member observers, Pan-Balkan Alliance of Natural Products and Drug Discovery Associations, founding members of the World Association of Young Scientists, European universities and research institutions, Alliance of International Science Organizations, as well as foreign science and technology societies, universities, and research institutions will all be in attendance. Young scientists from countries like the United States, France, Serbia, Hungary, and Belgium have formed delegations to attend the summit in China, and it is expected that over 30% of participants will be from overseas.

WYSS 2024 continues to strengthen its partnerships with international organizations. Building upon existing collaborations with the International Science Council, IOP Publishing, and Venture Cup Denmark, we will leverage the World Association of Young Scientists to enhance our engagement with its member units. In addition, by capitalizing on the influence of foreign members of WYSS Technical Program Committee, we will further engage overseas scientists in co-organizing the summit.

WYSS will continue its “second front” initiative by actively reaching out to the international community. For the third consecutive year, a European event will be held in Brussels, Belgium, featuring keynote speeches, University Innovation Forum, Forum on Women in Sci-Tech Innovation, Forum on Original and Disruptive Technologies, and presentation of youth innovation projects. This event aims to attract scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors from both Europe and China.

Youth Power: A Gathering of Young Talents

WYSS 2024 has expanded its target audience beyond accomplished young scientists, such as winners of the China Youth Science and Technology Award and For Women in Science Awards, and recipients of various national talent programs. This year, the summit will actively engage early-career researchers including master's and doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows, who have a greater demand for academic exchanges. As a result, over 70% of participants will be young scientists. Representatives from the winners of China Youth Science and Technology Award, the Chinese Association of Young Scientists and Technologists, Tsinghua-Schwarzman Scholars, and Hong Kong young scientists will be attending in groups.

To better cater to the needs of young scientists in terms of academic exchange, career development, and social networking, WYSS 2024 will introduce the WYSS Carnival for the first time, adhering to the principle of “enhancing the sense of gain and experience for young scientists”. Bringing together scientists, artists, developers, and entrepreneurs, the event will feature an exhibition area, seminar area, social space, and public access area. Additionally, open forums for youth such as roundtable dialogues, presentation sessions, and pitch events will also be held, providing a platform for sharing small but meaningful scientific discoveries. Various social, cultural and sports events, including “Science Cafe,” reading and sharing, music appreciation and Dragon Boat Friendship Race, will be held to showcase the creativity of young scientists. These activities aim to empower more young scientists and entrepreneurs to take center stage, fostering a vibrant atmosphere where “science brings youth together”.

Furthermore, the event will offer the public a unique opportunity to “play with science”, providing a more engaging and interactive experience. A number of technology companies and sustainable brands will participate in the WYSS Carnival, allowing the public to immerse themselves in new ways of living and working enabled by technological innovation.

Registration will close at 24:00 on November 10 (Beijing time). Early bird discounts are available for those who register before 24:00 on October 20.
