Join The Electric Revolution With Vidalux’ New Range Of Electric Shower Pods

-- The electric revolution is underway. Founder and CEO of Vidalux, Andrew Ellis doesn’t claim to be at the forefront of it. He is, however, playing a small, but important role in making homes greener, more economical and pleasanter. Vidalux’ new range of electric shower pods is a great example of this.

Goodbye gas, hello electricity

In the old days, people used electric showers as a way to fit in a shower where they couldn’t get a hot water supply. Now, however, increasing numbers of homeowners are starting to move away from gas and use electric options as much as they can.

Having been in the bathroom sector for many years, Mr Ellis has a lot of regular customers and contacts in the home industry. Based on his observations and experience, he believes homeowners are moving away from gas in steps rather than in giant leaps. He also believes that the growing demand for electric showers is a reflection of this.

As Mr Ellis explains “Ripping out gas central heating and starting again with electricity is a big job and an expensive one too. It can also make homeowners understandably nervous about what will happen if anything goes wrong. You don’t want to be without heating in the UK, not even in peak summer. You just don’t know what the weather will be like.”

“On the other hand,” Mr Ellis continues, “going electric one step at a time is a whole lot easier. For example, you can buy standalone electric heaters to use instead of your gas central heating. You can also buy an electric cooker instead of a gas one and an electric shower instead of a traditional one. Then you can disconnect from gas when you’re ready.”.

A new way of running homes

Mr Ellis acknowledges that the demand for electric showers might drop once people finally abandon gas central heating completely and go fully electric. He does, however, think that there is sustainable, long-term demand for them. He has two main reasons for holding this opinion.

“Firstly,” he explains, “I’m not convinced that everyone is going to switch over from gas central heating to electric central heating. I think it’s a lot more likely that at least some people are just going to carry on using the plug-in electric radiators they’ve already bought. If they’re smart radiators (which most of them are these days), they’ll be able to be controlled remotely so they’ll be at least as convenient as central heating.”.

“Secondly,” he continues, “even if you do have electric central heating, electric showers open up whole new options for how you configure your home. Basically, with an electric shower, you only need a cold water inlet. That means you only have one piped connection to organise instead of two. Given that piping is notoriously expensive, that can make the difference between a project being practical and it being a (pipe) dream.”.

Mr Ellis believes the second point is very significant because the UK has a lot of older properties. Many of these need (or could benefit from) significant refurbishment to make them both more energy efficient and more functional.

A compelling blend of function and aesthetics

According to Mr Ellis, modern electric showers are a vast improvement on the ones used in past years. In particular, they can now deliver a much higher level of water pressure. They can also be more gentle, if that’s what you want.

Vidalux’ electric shower pods bring an extra level of convenience to the showering experience. As they’re fully self-contained, all the steam and water drops from the shower stay inside the pod. That means you don’t need to tile the walls next to your shower. Better still, it means you don’t have to clean mildew and mould off your tiles or worry about leaks.
